CABLETRON UNVEILS SPECTRUM 3.1

Supports Over Ten New Application Modules for Multivendor Network
Management Operates on Industry's Broadest Line of Hardware Platforms

Rochester, NH -- June 19, 1995 -- With the introduction of SPECTRUM 3.1,
Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) has once again elevated the functionality of
its award-winning SPECTRUM for Open Systems enterprise management
platform. SPECTRUM 3.1 supports over ten new application modules for the
management of network devices from multiple vendors and operates on the
industry's broadest line of hardware platforms.

SPECTRUM 3.1 offers new modules for the management of internetworking
devices from multiple vendors, including Bay Networks, Cisco, 3Com, Retix
and UB Networks. New management modules include support for Cisco's
Catalyst Series Switch and Bay Networks 2800, 3000 and 5000 series hubs.

Enhancements to the latest release of SPECTRUM also include support for HP
9000 Series 700 workstations running HP-UX and PowerPC-based IBM RS/6000
workstations running AIX. SPECTRUM continues to support Sun Solaris, SunOS
and SGI IRIX.

"With the release of SPECTRUM 3.1, Cabletron will continue to capture
network management market share," said Karl Shimada of Rising Star
Research. "SPECTRUM's new enhancements add greater functionality and
allows the platform to run on the most widely installed base of
workstations, culminating with Windows NT support in the forthcoming
SPECTRUM 4.0 version later this year," Shimada concludes.

For easier access to critical management information such as system
up-time, protocol breakdowns and network statistics, Cabletron has
developed a new graphical Management Information Base (MIB) tool. The MIB
tool provides a graphical front-end for SNMP device queries instead of the
text-based interface previously offered.

Cabletron's SPECTRUM is the industry's first distributed platform with a
true client/server architecture that allows for multiple users at
distributed sites to share a common network management database. This
architecture provides a fully scalable multi-user solution for enterprise
network and systems management.

Patty Chrystycz, director of network management marketing for Cabletron,
continues to envision SPECTRUM as a tool that will be embraced by an
ever-increasing segment of the network management marketplace. "The
SPECTRUM 3.1 release (supporting HP-UX) and the forthcoming 4.0 version
(supporting Windows NT) will continue to make SPECTRUM even more
accessible to a larger segment of the installed workstation marketplace,"
she states. "When companies evaluate what's available in network
management side-by-side, SPECTRUM becomes the obvious choice for true
distributive management of an enterprise-wide network," Chrystycz
concludes.

SPECTRUM 3.1 is available from Cabletron within 60 days, priced at $15,000
for the combination of the SpectroSERVER and SpectroGRAPH. Customers under
maintenance contracts will be automatically upgraded to SPECTRUM 3.1.

According to International Data Corporation (Dataquest, Incorporated;
February 1994), SPECTRUM commands a 12 percent market share and is number
three in the rapidly changing network management market.

Headquartered in Rochester, NH, Cabletron employs more than 5,000 people in
over 80 offices around the world. The worldwide modular hub market leader,
Cabletron is ISO-9001 certified. Cabletron develops, manufactures and
markets Ethernet, FDDI, Token Ring and ATM internetworking products based
on its Synthesis product framework.

Cabletron directly serves more than 70,000 customer sites around the globe
and provides 7 x 24 support coverage, with free phone support during
normal business hours. A component of the S&P 500 index, Cabletron's
common stock is traded over the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol
CS. The company recently reported record revenue of $810.7 million and
earnings of $162 million for the fiscal year 1995.
