June 23, 1995 -- The CAT Chronicle is published weekly, every Friday by
Children's Animated Television (CAT). CAT produces educational videos for
children and teens on social issues such as AIDS and diversity, as well as
provide a free public service computer BBS.

WELCOME TO THE "CAT CHRONICLE" !!!
----------------------------------

CAT CURRENTS:

We are most excited about the latest projects developing at CAT. The first
is a new video program about suicide prevention in gay, lesbian & bisexual
(GLB) teens. The focus will be on improving self-esteem, presenting role
models (teen and adult) and the importance of saving lives. Our aim is not
to condemn or condone. The goal is to encourage people to become aware of
the tragedy of young people killing themselves, and provide solutions.
Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts is a supporter of the
project. In a letter to our Executive Director Bessie Hadley he said: "I
believe that the problem of suicide among young gay, lesbian and bisexual
people is a very serious one that society should be addressing. Those who
are working to prevent it have my deep admiration." This project is in the
preliminary stages, but we are greatly encouraged by the congressman's
support and that of others. Stay tuned for updates!!!

The second ongoing project is to develop a special addition to "Dr
Furball's BBS" (bulletin board service). We are creating the "Dr Furball's
Favorite Files CD-ROM". The CD-ROM is an optical software disk for
computer files or programs. It will include the best of
educational/general software from Shareware authors around the world.
(Shareware is "try before you buy"). Parents, educators and children will
be able to review programs that will be highlighted in the "Featured
Software Conference". In the first week, we have received software from 6
authors, and 15 of these programs are already on-line! The responses have
come from authors in Australia, Finland, California, Louisiana, Utah and
Canada. Claude DiDomenica, the system operator of "Dr Furball's BBS" and
President of CAT: "Over the last 2 years, I have learned an awful lot
about Shareware computer programs, which are available on most BBS's. As a
result, I have been working as a consultant for Dan Linton of Software
Creations to prepare shareware programs for their BBS. I check files for
descriptions, content and to assure that the files are legal. In fact, we
have a CAT conference on the Software Creations BBS. Dan continues to be
very supportive of our work. This experience of working with Shareware has
encouraged me to develop the CD-ROM project as an ongoing fund-raiser for
CAT."

ALTRUISM, BENEFIT AND COMPASSION - THE ABC's OF CAT:

Maybe these are words that sound dated or obsolete. But these are the words
that motivated us to start our dream of CAT. The need to make a small
difference in this big world is why we keep reaching out to strangers for
help. We are looking for a volunteer to help us create a puppet of Dr
Furball (a cat). He is the main character in our cartoon series. It should
be a hand puppet, with a movable hand attached to a stick. This can be a
really fun project for all you creative cat lover types out there. Now
that summer is here, if you have some free time on your hands, why not
spend it on a labor of love? CAT and Dr Furball need your artistic hands
and feline heart. The puppet will be used for a monthly television series
we are developing. We additionally anticipate needing other puppets for
the series... We are also looking for volunteers to help with
administrative support, to help maintain the BBS, and to help with
fundraising.

DATA UPDATES:

Our latest and greatest update is that CAT and Dr Furball's BBS will soon
have a Web Home Page on the World Wide Web! The Web can provide graphics,
sound and unlimited access from the Internet. We can list current events,
make appeals for more volunteers (ongoing), applaud all our supporters and
link to other non-profit organizations. The best thing of all is that we
can literally tell the whole world about CAT!!! One of the most important
objectives of CAT is to spread the word through whatever means are
available. This is a way of using the latest technology available. If you
already have access to the Web, look for our weekly updates on current
events. We'll be posting information about the new CD-ROM project and
updates about CAT and Dr Furball's BBS. We will release the Web site URL
(address) as soon as it is operational. Stay tuned...

HOW YOU CAN HELP...

We all have demands on our time, money etc. With that in mind, here are
some quick and easy ways make a donation to CAT:

--Write a short article in you company or group's newsletter about
--CAT. Show your co-workers your philanthropic side and also let
--people know about CAT.

--Tell your friends about CAT. Spoken words can be as powerful
--as the written. Use the CAT Chronicle to let people know that
--you care about the future of our children!

--Put up a CAT poster or the latest newsletter in you local library,
--schools or community center. (Available via US Mail upon request)

--When you call other bulletin boards, tell them about CAT. Ask if
--you can post information (which we can provide) about CAT.

--At your next PTA, Girl Scout or youth group meeting, make an
--announcement about CAT.

As you already know, the competition for financial support is very heavy.
But if you feel the need to make an investment in the future of our
children, think about making a financial contribution to CAT. Recently our
Executive Director met with a representative from a group which councils
GLB youth. The consensus of the meeting was that NOT ENOUGH is being done
for the emotional well being of these precious young lives. Can we at
least try???

Small things that you do can really help us out a lot! Thanks for your time
and support.
