12-YEAR-OLD GIRL PILOTS AIRCRAFT "ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR EDUCATION"
CompuServe, Rotary Club sponsor cross-country event

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 29, 1995 -- Today, 12-year-old Vanessa Pereira,
of Los Angeles, Calif., takes off from Santa Monica airport on a special
mission and with a special message for kids across America. Vanessa will
be the pilot, flying a Piper Cherokee Six, a six-seat airplane, across the
country in a two-month tour that is like nothing undertaken before. Her
program, called the ACE Project (Across the Country for Education), is a
summer trip to all 48 contiguous states, with stops in one city per
state.

"We're not doing this to set a record or to show off what an exceptional
child Vanessa is," said her father, Bosco Pereira, who will accompany
Vanessa on her journey. "Our message is that with the right motivation,
preparation, time and parental support, any kid can `fly' -- whether
literally or in any chosen field of endeavor."

In each city, Pereira will visit children's charitable organizations and
will give electronic, and sometimes live, presentations for children and
parents. Vanessa's speech, "I Dream, I Do, I Deliver," encourages kids to
aim high, work hard and not give up. In it, she shares some of the
successful techniques that have helped her achieve a straight-A average in
the math, science and technology magnet program at Orville Wright Middle
School in Los Angeles. At the same time, Bosco presents "Parenting with a
Purpose and a Plan," a session on how to develop a blueprint for a child's
education, with useful tips on how to become a proactive parent and plan
for your children's future. Both presentations are free.

The ACE Project, the idea of a father and daughter, is sponsored by the
Rotary Club of Tarzana-Encino of Southern California and by the Kids and
Teens Student Forum on the CompuServe Information Service. The
cross-country tour will be completed Sept. 6, 1995, in Santa Monica. For
more information about Vanessa's itinerary and progress, access the
CompuServe Information Service and GO ACE for the Kids and Teens Student
Forum.
