CLARIS OFFERS AGGRESSIVE NEW PRICING FOR MACWRITE PRO

New $49 price designed to appeal to home and education users

Santa Clara, California -- May 31, 1995 -- Claris Corporation has
immediately and permanently lowered the suggested price of MacWrite Pro
1.5, the popular word processor for Macintosh and Power Macintosh, to a
suggested retail price (SRP) of $49.

The pricing change is designed to make MacWrite Pro a more attractive
product for entry-level users in home and education environments who want
a dedicated word processor that has both a small "footprint" and offers a
great set of word processing features at the best price. The new MacWrite
Pro pricing also comes at a time when ClarisWorks 4.0, also announced
today, is adding greater word processing functionality and is quickly
becoming a popular integrated word processing alternative to bloated suite
offerings for both Macintosh and Windows higher education and business
users.

MacWrite Pro has received great industry praise, and recently garnered a
number one worldwide customer satisfaction rating, according to recent
survey data from DASAR Inc. The popular word processing program also won
the Editor's Choice award from Macworld magazine, a leading industry
publication. MacWrite Pro won the prestigious Macworld award over three
competitors in the "Lean Word Processors" category that included
LetterPerfect from WordPerfect, Nisus Compact from Nisus Software and
WriteNow from Softkey International. The "lean" category is distinguished
from high-end word processors by having a compact footprint -- MacWrite
Pro needs only3.2 MB of hard disk space for a full install and a
recommended 2 MB of RAM -- while being very rich in features. In
comparison, the leading high-end category application takes 25MB or more
for a full installation, and over twice that to install any of the popular
suite offerings that include word processors.

ABOUT MACWRITE PRO

MacWrite Pro provides users with the right combination of features, power
and usability for creating documents with impact. Style sheets, one-step
table creation, and floating tool palettes give users power without
sacrificing ease-of-use. Text wrap around graphics and adding QuickTime
movies is easy, and users can set up variable columns to create more
complex documents like newsletters, flyers, and brochures. Multiple
headers and footers, detailed document statistics and the Table of
Contents feature allow for larger, more intricate documents. MacWrite Pro
offers extensive System 7.5 support, including PowerTalk, QuickTime video
playback, Apple Script and Apple Events for automating more intricate word
processing tasks, such as mail merges.

MacWrite Pro 1.5 is accelerated for Power Macintosh.

Users of MacWrite II and competing word processing products (such as
Microsoft Word and WordPerfect) may upgrade for $39. MacWrite Pro 1.0
customers can upgrade to version 1.5 for $29. Readers can call Claris at
1-800-544-8554 for product information and ordering.
