---------------------------------------------------------------------
Compaq today announced:

New models of the award-winning Compaq Contura value-line notebook,
featuring faster processors, larger displays, higher capacity hard drives,
and more memory.

Prices ranging from $2,499 to $3,699, redefining the term value-line
notebook computing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

HOUSTON, June 19, 1995 -- In a move designed to redefine value-line
notebook computing, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today
introduced a new line of Contura 400 notebook personal computers combining
contemporary features with an affordable line-up of models ranging from
$2,499 to $3,699.

The new Contura 420 and 430 products feature faster microprocessors, higher
capacity drives, large 10.4-inch color thin film transistor (TFT) and
color super twist nematic (STN) dual scan displays, an optical trackball
for more accurate pointing, and two Type II or one Type III PCMCIA card
slots (Personal Computer Memory Card Industry Association). In addition,
the Contura 420 and 430 line also offers a docking station with complete
port replication, a monitor stand, a spare battery charger, and optional
integrated Ethernet -- options no other PC manufacturer offers for a
value-line product.

Prices of the new Contura models range from $2,499 to $3,699. For example,
the Contura 420C Model 420, which includes a DX4/75 microprocessor,
advanced passive matrix 10.4-inch dual scan color display, a 420 megabyte
hard drive, eight megabytes of random access memory (RAM) and
pre-installed software, starts as low as $2,599 (NOTE 1). The Compaq
Contura 420 and 430 models begin shipping to resellers this month.

This new Contura line represents Compaq's ability to identify and adapt to
changing customer needs while setting the pace in value-line notebook
computing, said Hugh Barnes, Senior Vice President, Portable PC Division,
Compaq Computer Corporation. Not only have we added the latest
technologies to the award winning Contura family, but we have done so in a
very affordable fashion, making it easier for today's more sophisticated,
price-conscious portable users to acquire fully capable notebook computers
at aggressive prices.

Contura 420C Added to U.S. Army Portable I

Government Technology Services, Inc. (Nasdaq: GTSI), the leading reseller
of microcomputer and Unix workstation hardware, software and networking
products to the Federal government, announced today that the U.S. Army has
approved a major system substitution on its Army Portable-I contract.
GTSI's new color portable will be the Compaq Contura 420C, which GTSI will
make available for the same price as the unit it is replacing. Army
Portable-I is a dual award firm-fixed-price, indefinite deliver,
indefinite quantity procurement with a two-year period of tenure.

NOTE 1: Estimated selling price; reseller pricing may vary.

                    Key Features

The following features are key to the new Contura line:

Microprocessor: Intel DX4/75 or Intel DX4/100 SL Enhanced -- operating at a
low 3.3 volts, the microprocessors also include 16Kbytes of internal
cache.

Display: 10.4-inch CTFT or CSTN -- featuring local bus graphics and
1024x768x256 external Super VGA (video graphics array).

Memory: 8 megabytes standard, expandable to 32 megabytes.

Optical trackball: the 19mm centrally located trackball operates via light
sensors that measure the trackball's movement, allowing for more reliable
pointing and reducing the need for cleaning.

Hard drive: capacities range from 350 MB to 720 MB.

A status panel provides easy-to-read indicators and a battery gauge, and
the Instant-On feature provides instant access to the notebook when it has
turned itself off to save battery life. The industry standard battery is a
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery, with up to five hours of battery
life.

All models are Windows 95-ready and fully Plug and Play capable, using the
industry standard PCMCIA slots for the addition of Plug and Play devices.
Other Plug and Play benefits include auto configuration of peripheral
devices such as an external monitor, keyboard or mouse.

For greater comfort and usability, all units include keyboard tilt and a
palm rest. Each of the new Contura products weighs about 6.25 pounds with
the battery, and comes with a clip-on handle for easier carrying.

Products that Grow with the Customer's Needs

The expansion base for the new Contura 420 and 430 models allows the user
to take his or her notebook computer on the road anduse it effectively in
the office environment. Complete port replication is provided, including
the parallel, serial, keyboard, mouse and Super VGA ports. The base
includes a monitor stand with an enhanced ergonomic design, including a
tilted keyboard. A spare battery charger is built in, and an Ethernet
model is available for networked environments.

Other upgradeable features on the new Conturas include user-upgradeable
hard drives and memory, and dealer-installable active matrix displays for
models originally equipped with passive matrix displays.

Other Features

All Contura models offer power management features such as hibernation,
standby and AC power conservation to help reduce energy consumption. Each
product is Energy Star compliant, a voluntary program designed by the
Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the energy consumption of
personal computers.

Of course, each unit carries Compaq's customary three-year worldwide
warranty* with carry-in service, free lifetime technical support for the
hardware and Compaq software via Compaq's toll-free hotline, and PaqFax,
RemotePaq and CompuServe to provide quick responses to user questions.
