New Flat Panel Computer Offers 800x600 Color Display and Guided Acoustic
Wave Touch

June 19, 1995 -- Greer, SC . . . Computer Dynamics has just introduced the
DisplayPac104-SVGA, the first flat panel computer to feature both the new
800x600 active matrix color TFT LCD and a guided acoustic wave
touchscreen. It is designed for applications which require higher than VGA
resolution, without a significant price increase over VGA solutions.
Charts, graphs, and touch selection matrices are clearly displayed and
brought to the screen fast, thanks to the PC/104-expandable 486 Graphical
User Interface (GUI) processing engine behind the display. The
DisplayPac104-SVGA's size (12.6" x 8.6" x 3"), display, and sturdy
metalwork design create a very mechanically rigid system. This makes it
ideal for high-vibration environments where space is at a premium and
where high information content is needed.

The 800x600 CCFT backlit panel has a 10.4" diagonal viewing area, and
displays 262,144 vivid colors, making it an excellent choice for full
motion video. This 800x600 resolution display is also available in a
passive matrix version, offered in Computer Dynamics' VAMP-SVGA
configuration--the flat panel monitor plus optional touchscreen which can
be plugged directly into any standard SVGA analog output.

The DisplayPac104-SVGA is the company's first flat panel computer to
provide an optional guided acoustic wave touchscreen. This recently
introduced technology uses ultrasonic waves dispersed through a thin piece
of glass, and offers numerous attractive benefits: high optical clarity
(92%); 150 points per inch resolution; Z axis to allow pressure-sensitive
feedback; excellent resistance to scratching and chemicals; unaffected by
foreign material on its surface. Other touchscreen choices are infrared
and resistive.

Processor choices for the DisplayPac104-SVGA include a 100 MHz 486DX4, 66
MHz 486DX2, and 50 MHz 486SX2. The system's combination of processor
speed, local bus video with Windows acceleration, and the local bus IDE
hard drive interface create the fastest GUI engine on the market today.
Your data never hits a bottleneck. From the hard drive through the
processor and out to the display, the data travels at the processor's
external clock rate using a 32-bit data path. Other on-board features
include up to 16M DRAM, keyboard/speaker interface, real-time clock, and
PC/104 expansion. Computer Dynamics' selection of PC/104 modules includes
analog and digital I/O, semiconductor disk, networks, and more.

The DisplayPac104-SVGA is priced at $6367 (25 pc.) for the 50 MHz unit with
display, 4M DRAM, and guided acoustic wave touchscreen. For more
