DIGITAL ANNOUNCES BackOffice OEM AGREEMENT WITH MICROSOFT

BackOffice family server products to be bundled on AlphaServer systems and
Prioris PC servers...

MAYNARD, Mass. -- June 14, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced the signing of an OEM agreement with Microsoft Corporation that
enables Digital to offer the Microsoft BackOffice family of server
products on Digital AlphaServer systems and Intel based Digital Prioris PC
servers.

With this addition, Digital is further extending the industry's broadest
range of server platforms and providing customers with enhanced
flexibility and choice when deploying Microsoft BackOffice client/server
solutions.

Microsoft BackOffice is a family of client-server applications designed to
make it easier for companies to improve decision-making and streamline
business processes. The Microsoft BackOffice family consists of the
Microsoft Windows NT Server operating system, Microsoft SQL Server,
Microsoft SNA Server, Microsoft Systems Management Server and Microsoft
Mail.

Digital and Microsoft have been working together on the performance of
Microsoft BackOffice, which includes Microsoft SQL Server, on Digital
AlphaServer systems. Preliminary work with the Digital AlphaServer 2100
5/250 with three Alpha microprocessors running Microsoft SQL Server 6.0
has shown an estimated 2,700 transactions per minute (tpm).

"Today's announcement is further proof of Digital's continuing commitment
to offering the industry's broadest range of leadership server platforms
for business solutions based on Windows NT," said Lucia Quinn, vice
president of Digital's Windows NT Business Segment. "Bundling Microsoft
BackOffice with Digital AlphaServer systems and Intel based Prioris PC
servers allows us to provide users with a powerful platform for
cost-effective client/server computing."

"Digital is a key player in providing Microsoft BackOffice solutions to
customers. With today's announcement, Digital provides one of the broadest
ranges of server platforms to support Microsoft's BackOffice family with
both Intel based Digital PC servers and RISC-based Digital AlphaServers,"
said Jim Allchin, senior vice president, Business Systems Division at
Microsoft, "Digital's AlphaServers and Intel based PC servers, together
with Microsoft's BackOffice family of server products provide the
exceptional scalability that today's business systems require to be
competitive and cost effective."

Digital and Microsoft will demonstrate the scalability of Microsoft
BackOffice featuring Microsoft SQL Server 6.0 on both Digital AlphaServers
and Intel based Prioris PC servers at PC Expo in New York City, June
20-22, 1995. Demonstrations at the Digital and Microsoft booths will
feature the scalability of Microsoft SQL Server 6.0 on Digital
AlphaServers and the Prioris HX 590 server, recent winner of a PC Magazine
Editor's Choice Award. In addition, customer examples of implemented
solutions with the Microsoft BackOffice family of server products will be
shown on both platforms.

A full range of Digital servers with Microsoft BackOffice will be available
-- from single processor to multi-processor Intel based systems and SMP
AlphaServer systems. Digital servers shipped with Microsoft BackOffice
products can be configured for one to four processors. The following
servers will be available from Digital and Digital resellers: Prioris XL,
Prioris HX, AlphaServer 1000 4/233, AlphaServer 2000 4/275, AlphaServer
