NEW PC SERVERS OFFER INVESTMENT LONGEVITY

Building on Digital's heritage of technical excellence and innovation in
systems and networking, Digital PC continues to enhance its
industry-leading family of Prioris PC Servers. The new Prioris HX 5100 MP
server is a high-performance application server that achieves the
industry's most balanced system design by matching Pentium power with the
greatest number of high-bandwidth PCI slots (six) of any competitive PC
server; a benefit made possible by Digital's PCI bridging technology.

In addition, the new Prioris PC server offers greater full-system
expandability and processor scalability -- from one-to-four Pentium 100MHz
processors in a single cabinet -- than any other PC server in its class.
The Prioris HX 5100 MP family is also upgradeable to future higher-speed
processors. The new high-end Prioris incorporates more internal
hot-swappable storage bays than comparable servers, for a total internal
storage capacity of 36 GB. In addition, the Prioris HX 5100 MP includes
several fault-tolerance features such as a RAID array disk subsystem with
seven hot-swap drive bays, standard ECC memory, an optional redundant
power supply, and four failover fans for maximum system cooling. The
Prioris HX 5100 MP server family will be available in July. The Prioris
HX 5100 MP base system list prices range from U.S. $10,399 for a single
processor system to $30,299 for a four- processor SMP configuration.

The company also introduced the Prioris LX 575 and Prioris LX 590 --
reliable, expandable and easily managed entry-level PC servers designed to
ideally suit small- and medium-sized businesses as well as remote site and
branch office applications when used in conjunction with Digital's Remote
Server Manager. The Prioris LX, which replaces Digital's Prioris MTE,
features more PCI slots than its entry-level competition, and a greater
number of onboard PCI interfaces, such as PCI Enhanced IDE, PCI Fast
SCSI-2 and PCI Full-Duplex Ethernet to provide an unprecedented
price/performance ratio for entry-level PC server systems. The Prioris LX
575 and LX 590 are available immediately.

Suggested list prices for base configuration of the LX 575 and LX 590 are
U.S. $3,000 and $3,300 respectively.

"Given our corporate legacy in networked systems and our intimate
understanding of the specific requirements of the client/server market,
Digital PC is uniquely suited to deliver products, services and support
that ensure customers of a maximum return on their information technology
investment," said Raymond L. Weadock, vice president and general manager
of Digital PC's Americas Operations. "Today's product introduction is
only the latest proof of Digital's commitment to the Intel-based server
market and, in the near future, we will strengthen our portfolio with
further Pentium upgrades and enhancements in associated software. In
addition, Digital is committed to seizing a leadership position in
providing clusters of Windows NT-based servers, a technology that Digital
Equipment Corporation understands better than any personal computer
company today."

Digital also introduced today several Pentium processor enhancements for
its Prioris XL Server family of midrange PC servers designed for
medium-sized workgroups and print/file sharing applications. The Prioris
XL Server is now available in Pentium 75MHz, Pentium 100MHz and Pentium
100MHz dual-processor configurations. Base models of the Prioris XL
Server 575 and 5100 carry suggested list prices of U.S. $4,479 and $4,849,
while the Prioris XL Server 5100 DP base configuration is priced at
$6,749. These new variants of the Prioris XL Server family are available
immediately.

Digital PC also introduced a rackmount solution for its full family of
Prioris PC Servers that, unlike other server rackmount solutions, allows
any combination of Prioris servers and external storage devices to be
installed in a rack without modification to the systems chassis or wiring.
Digital's rackmount solution offers greater flexibility than competing
rackmounts by allowing front or rear mounting of servers and peripherals.
Digital PC rackmount is available immediately for a suggested list price
of U.S. $3,155 for a 63-inch high unit and $3,329 for an 81-inch high
unit. Additional pricing varies with shelving configuration, and cooling
and power handling options.

All Digital Prioris PC servers are available through Digital resellers and
distributors.

INNOVATIVE PORTABLE DESIGN FEATURES MODULAR MOBILITY

Digital's new Mobile Media Module sets the new standard for portability in
multimedia computing by delivering the smallest and lightest solution in
its class -- less than half the size and weight of popular multimedia
notebooks. The innovative design of the module revolutionizes notebook
computing by providing industry- leading portability for multimedia
applications as well as modular mobility to meet the changing needs of
mobile professionals.

For example, when attached to the Digital HiNote Ultra notebook, the sleek
Mobile Media Module adds less than one inch in height and merely two
pounds of weight to the compact four-pound computer -- without sacrificing
speed, power or storage capacity. It attaches easily to the bottom of the
HiNote Ultra in a similar fashion to the innovative zero-footprint floppy
disk/PC Card module that fits into the open space below the notebook and
next to its flip-down battery. When multimedia capabilities aren't
required, the user simply detaches the Mobile Media Module from the HiNote
Ultra, returning the HiNote Ultra to its industry-leading slim,
lightweight form factor.

"Distinguishing our HiNote Ultra Mobile Media solution from the competition
is like comparing the Concorde to the Spruce Goose -- sleek, light and
fast versus bulky, heavy and bound by gravity," said Weadock. "Just as we
set the standard for smaller, full-function notebooks with our HiNote
Ultra product line last fall, once again we've taken the lead in technical
innovation for mobile computing by introducing a whole new dimension to
multimedia portability."

The company also announced today two new models to its HiNote Ultra
notebook family that include 528MB hard drives, currently the largest
capacity hard drive available for systems in this category. Based on the
IntelDX4 75MHz processor and dual-scan STN or active-matrix TFT displays,
respectively, the HiNote Ultra CS475 and CT475 models with 528MB hard
drives are priced at U.S. $3,879 and $4,999. A 528MB hard drive factory
upgrade option is also available for existing HiNote Ultra customers and
is priced at $799. Digital's new HiNote Ultra Mobile Media Module will
begin shipping in the U.S. during July and is priced at $899.

CONVENIENT MULTIMEDIA FOR THE CORPORATE DESKTOP

Recognizing that multimedia requirements within a business environment are
different from those of home office users, Digital is now offering a
multimedia upgrade package for its commercial desktop computers that is
designed and priced to meet the specific needs of business-based
multimedia applications. The easy-to-use package includes a quad-speed
CD-ROM drive, a high-end Ensonic Wavetable Sound Card, Labtec speakers, a
microphone, and Astound! software for the creation and support of dynamic
multimedia presentations that incorporate full-motion video and stereo
audio segments.

This flexible multimedia solution can be factory installed or purchased as
an easy-to-add upgrade kit for any of Digital's Venturis and Celebris
desktop PC systems. The multimedia upgrade kit is available immediately
and is list priced at U.S. $529. The company also stated that it will
continue to evaluate offerings for its commercial desktop products that
increase customer ease of use for multimedia applications such as video
conferencing, integrated sound and networking.

Last week, Digital expanded the power range of its popular desktop lines
with the addition of 120MHz and 133MHz Pentium processors. Designed for
the general business user is the new Venturis 5120; and for power users,
Digital now offers the Celebris XL 5120 and Celebris XL 5133.

All Digital PC systems are available through Digital resellers and
distributors and are backed by the company's limited three-year warranty
and worldwide service and support network.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computers to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's Intel and Alpha platforms, storage, networking,
software and services, together with industry- focused solutions from
business partners, help organizations compete and win in todays global
marketplace.
