FRAME TECHNOLOGY SHIPS FRAMEMAKER, RELEASE 5 WITH FREE FRAMEREADER

FrameReader License Offers Immediate Distribution of FrameMaker Documents

SAN JOSE, CA -- June 6, 1995 -- Frame Technology Corporation announced that
it is now shipping FrameMaker, Release 5, the next generation of its
popular document authoring software. Included with it is a license for
FrameReader which enables FrameMaker users to distribute their documents
electronically throughout their workgroups and across platforms on a
"read-only" basis.

FrameReader is a no charge, limited functionality version of FrameViewer,
Release 5, which will ship in Q3 1995. FrameReader and FrameViewer,
companion products to FrameMaker, use Instant View to distribute
FrameMaker documents without post processing. This technology gives users
the ability to eliminate "time-to-market" delays when distributing
documents online. "The combination of FrameReader and FrameMaker, Release
5 offers our users a comprehensive document authoring and distribution
solution," said L. George Klaus, Frame's president and CEO. "When used
together, these valuable tools enhance efficiency between workgroups."

FrameMaker, Release 5 Ships with New Features

FrameMaker, Release 5's new features add more flexibility, power, and
ease-of-use in several key categories including authoring efficiency,
compound document support, cross-platform architecture, and online
publishing capabilities.

AUTHORING EFFICIENCY

FrameMaker is targeted at documents that contain information which is often
reused and revised. New authoring features improve user productivity in
document creation, editing and maintenance.

Automatic text runarounds. Text can flow around graphics as a rectangular
boundary, an arbitrary polygon, or following the contour of an irregular
image.

Straddles. Headlines, tables, graphics, or footnotes can span multiple
columns and side heads.

An online tutorial. Interactive lessons make it easy to learn FrameMaker.

COMPOUND DOCUMENT SUPPORT & CROSS-PLATFORM ARCHITECTURE

Recognizing that documents can be the result of many sources provided by
many individual contributors, FrameMaker supports industry standard text
and graphic file formats, as well as providing unmatched cross-platform
support.

Import text by reference. Regardless of computer platform, text can be
imported by reference into FrameMaker documents. Imported text can come
from other FrameMaker documents, ASCII text, or word processing formats
supported by FrameMaker's import filters.

Filter enhancements. The FrameMaker filter architecture has been totally
re-engineered to provide consistent graphics and text import and export
capabilities across all platforms.

Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and support for Type 1 fonts. ATM is included with
the UNIX and Windows products. Support for Adobe Type 1 fonts is now
available across all platforms making cross-platform movement of documents
seamless.

Frame Developer's Kit. The Frame Developer's Kit, or FDK, for Macintosh,
UNIX and Windows platforms, is targeted at end-users, ISV developers,
value-added resellers, and systems integrators who want to develop
portable, value-added applications for FrameMaker, FrameViewer, and
FrameMaker+SGML. The Frame Developer's Kit consists of a set of
cross-platform development tools including the Frame Application Program
Interface (API) and the Frame Development Environment (FDE).

ONLINE PUBLISHING

More and more documents are being published electronically, across
enterprise networks and over the Internet. FrameMaker is solidifying its
position as the authoring tool of choice for documents that will be
distributed electronically. FrameMaker supports the leading online
distribution options with automatic hypertext link generation and standard
output options to the Internet/World-Wide Web, Adobe Acrobat 2.0,
FrameReader and FrameViewer.

Internet/WWW publishing. FrameMaker, Release 5 will include an integrated
HyperText Markup Language (HTML) document conversion utility that
automates the task of preparing documents for the World-Wide Web.

Adobe Acrobat 2.0 support. FrameMaker, Release 5 offers the most extensive
Acrobat 2.0 support available including automatic generation of
cross-document hypertext links, Acrobat bookmarks and annotations. It
generates enhanced PostScript files, which can be used by the Acrobat
Distiller to generate advanced Acrobat PDF files.

FrameReader and FrameViewer. Release 5 users can take advantage of the
following new features for electronic distribution of FrameMaker
documents:

Custom titles in alert boxes enable document authors to easily create alert
boxes that display messages with their own customized titles. Pull-right
pop-up menus allow users to quickly access information in online documents
from a submenu with another layer of linked commands. Document by document
hypertext preferences give users the ability to control window placement
from the table of contents, indexes, or any other automatically generated
information.
