CARTOONIST SCOTT ADAMS TO KEYNOTE SEVENTH ANNUAL EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
CONFERENCE

Humorist to Discuss Humor in the Workplace, Share Unpublished 'Dilbert'
Cartoons

San Francisco -- June 20, 1995 -- The Seventh Annual Embedded Systems
Conference, the electronic industry's premier forum 100-percent dedicated
to embedded systems technology, will begin on a light note with a keynote
speech by Scott Adams, creator of the popular "Dilbert" comic strip.
Adams, who claimed to get much more respect from his boss when he first
became a syndicated cartoonist, will kick-off the conference with a talk
on humor in the workplace at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12 at the San
Jose (Calif.) Convention Center.

Since its initial publication six years ago, the "Dilbert" comic strip has
become a favorite daily read for electronics professionals and other
office workers across the country. Scott Adams, who worked in technology
for fifteen years, first at a large bank and most recently for a major
telecommunications company, will share his experiences in becoming a
cartoonist and his formula for humor. He will also talk about how he
develops the strip and show unpublished cartoons that did not make it past
his editors.

The slightly offbeat keynote establishes a fun, upbeat context for the
Conference's respected technical programs. Running from September 12 -
September 15, the conference offers more than 100 classes and tutorial
sessions presented by experts in the embedded systems industry. Exciting
product exhibits and social activities combine with the technical program
to make the Embedded Systems Conference the world's largest and most
comprehensive event for embedded systems developers and engineers. This
year's conference is also the first to take advantage of the expanded
exhibit and classroom facilities of the San Jose Convention Center.
Conference attendees will appreciate the humor of the special keynote, as
Adams' "Dilbert" comic communicates his own unique perspective on the
plight of technical professionals in modern business.

"It used to be that the boss was the most educated and experienced person
in the office, commanding a certain level of respect. Now the smart people
are the technologists," said the 38 year old cartoonist.

Recently described as "an unofficial comic strip of digital culture,"
"Dilbert" has grown from a cult favorite to national popularity. It is now
carried by 450 newspapers worldwide, and appears regularly in electronics
industry magazines.

Adams also encourages attendance at both the conference and his keynote as
the sensible thing to do. "I've spoken to thousands of people and nobody
has ever died during my presentation," he quipped. "Statistically, it's a
very safe place to be."

The Embedded Systems Conference is the premier industry event for embedded
systems software and hardware professionals. Now in its seventh year, the
Embedded Systems Conference is presented by Miller Freeman, Inc., the
