IBM Power Series Delivers Next Generation Performance with Choice of
Operating Systems

SOMERS, N.Y., June 19 . . . The IBM Power Series announced today provides a
powerful platform to run multiple 32-bit operating systems -- including
OS/2 Warp Connect, AIX, Solaris and Windows NT Workstation 3.51 -- and
hundreds of developers are joining IBM to introduce advanced client/server
applications, development tools and related hardware that advantage of the
PowerPC-based systems.

"IBM has invested significant resources to develop an open platform that
represents a new paradigm for both end users and developers of software
and hardware across our industry," said Anthony Santelli, general manager,
IBM Power Personal Systems Division. "By appealing to buyers of mainstream
PC systems, technical workstation users and individuals who want a choice
of operating systems, we believe the Power Series family will become a
major factor in driving demand for PowerPC-based products." The
architecture of the IBM Power Series enables users to combine the
leading-edge attributes of PowerPC hardware with the performance of
today's major 32-bit operating systems: OS/2 Warp Connect, AIX, Solaris
and Windows NT Workstation.

These advanced operating systems also will support existing DOS and
Windows-based applications, which means users can leverage their
investment in existing applications while positioning themselves for the
next generation of personal computing.

Concurrent with the launch of the Power Series, IBM announced that AIX
Version 4 for Clients, its powerful UNIX operating system, and OS/2 Warp
Connect have been enhanced to support the new systems. With AIX Version
4.1.3, users can run thousands of AIX applications on the Power Series
platform. With OS/2 Warp Connect (PowerPC Edition), Power Series users
also can leverage the power, ease of use and connectivity of IBM's
strategic desktop operating system.

Solaris, Sunsoft's workstation operating system, also is being ported to
the Power Series. For users of Windows NT Workstation applications, the
Power Series offers immediate compatibility with Microsoft's 32-bit
operating system.

AIX Version 4.1.3 is scheduled to be available in early July. OS/2 Warp
Connect (PowerPC Edition) is available now in a limited beta test program
and will undergo a final beta cycle prior to general availability in the
fourth quarter. An early access version of Solaris (PowerPC Edition) will
be released in fall of 1995 and product will ship in March 1996. Windows
NT Workstation is available now.

To exemplify many of the software and hardware companies that already have
developed products for the Power Series or plan to within the next few
months, attached is a list drawn from IBM's new Solutions Directory.
Product availability is determined by the respective companies.
