IBM Introduces Broadest Range of Internet Connections and I/T Security that
Customers Can Bank On

WHITE PLAINS, N. Y. June 13 ... IBM today announced a comprehensive set of
global offerings to help its customers "get connected" to the Information
Highway quickly, easily and securely. The offerings include the industry's
broadest range of Internet and I/T security products and services,
allowing customers to reach millions of Internet users in markets as
complex and demanding as electronic commerce.

"As customers look to take advantage of the power and reach of global
networks and networked applications to enhance their competitive position,
they will require a range of secure products and services," said Dennie M.
Welsh, general manager, IBM Global Services. "No company offers the
breadth of products and services, depth of experience and global
capabilities that IBM does to help customers securely and easily get
connected with their customers."

The IBM Internet Connection Family of products announced today provide
secure connection and use of the Internet on systems as small as notebook
computers or as big as the largest IBM supercomputer. IBM introduced
server software for the Internet's World Wide Web for the following
operating systems: OS/2*, which runs on desktop and laptop computers;
AIX*, which runs on IBM's UNIX** workstations and parallel supercomputers;
OS/400*, which runs on IBM's AS/400* business computers; and MVS*, which
runs on IBM's S/390* mainframe computers.

All these servers can be accessed by any industry-standard Web browser. IBM
also introduced World Wide Web browser software for OS/2 and AIX.

Internet services introduced today include offerings for home page design,
and for design and hosting on the World Wide Web. Among IBM's consulting
offerings are enterprise planning and design for the Internet, and
applying the Internet for competitive business advantage.

In addition, IBM today announced that the IBM Global Network has
significantly enhanced its worldwide dial and leased line access to the
Internet. The IBM Global Network is the world's largest integrated data,
voice and video network, providing high-speed Internet access to more than
200 cities in 26 countries. By year's end it will offer service in 450
locations in nearly 40 countries. "The scope of our announcements today
demonstrates IBM's commitment to the Internet as a platform for customers
to extend their reach around the world," said John R. Patrick, vice
president of Internet Applications for IBM.

For more than 20 years the leader in I/T security, IBM today announced
security products and services, including a new worldwide I/T Security
Consulting practice to enable companies to secure their networked computer
operations. The practice includes a Global Security Analysis Laboratory, a
service in which IBM will, at a customer's request, attempt to infiltrate
a network to test its integrity.

IBM also announced that its AntiVirus software, which detects and
disinfects more than 6,000 known computer viruses, will now be available
over the Internet via IBM's new AntiVirus home page. Other security
offerings introduced today include installation and support for IBM's
award-winning NetSP security firewalls. The new I/T consulting practice
offers an Emergency Response Service for commercial business to provide
swift incident management skills during network security emergencies.

"As customers explore effective leverage of the Internet and
network-centric computing in their businesses, IBM is uniquely positioned
to provide the full range of consulting and services to meet their needs.
Our I/T Security practice includes focused and enhanced Internet
capabilities to assist clients in addressing a key issue -- protecting
their vital information assets," said Elisabeth Meriam, vice president,
I/T Consulting.

For supporting secure online commerce, IBM Research has developed a method
for conducting multiparty transactions on the Internet between consumers,
merchants and financial institutions. This security protocol, iKP, has
been presented to numerous industry standards organizations. In a related
announcement, Europay International with IBM today disclosed plans to
develop a "smart card" system that uses iKP. Information on iKP is
available on the World Wide Web.

In other announcements today, IBM disclosed plans for Internet application
building tools; gateway products that link IBM database and transaction
processing software to the World Wide Web; and search engines to help
customers find information on the Internet based on shape and color, in
addition to standard text. Information about the offerings today can be
found on new home pages also introduced today: the IBM Internet Connection
home page at http://www.ibm.com/Internet and the IBM I/T Security home
page at http://www.ibm.com/security.
