IDD Delivers News Agent for The Dow Jones Telerate Network

New York, NY June 13, 1995 -- IDD Information Services announced it has
built and delivered the new Interactive News Search System for the
worldwide Dow Jones Telerate network. The system facilitates searches of
the Dow Jones newswires by ticker symbol, key words, or industry codes.

The Telerate Interactive News Search System is based on News Agent
software. The Dow Jones Telerate application is the largest deployment so
far of News Agent, which was introduced in 1993 to meet the performance
requirements of large-scale networks.

Telerate customers can use the new search capability to view real-time news
and to retrieve stories. The system's features include:

* Search for English words or names within the text of stories
* Search stories as soon as they arrive (no delay for indexing)
* Search 180-day full archive
* Multiple-part stories are automatically "chained" together
* Duplicate stories are automatically eliminated
* Search response times average one to two seconds

The Dow Jones newswires that can be searched include: The Dow Jones Capital
Markets Report, Dow Jones News Service (Broadtape), Emerging Markets
Report, Dow Jones Telerate Energy Service, Asian Equities Report, and Dow
Jones International News.

News Agent is a client-server system compatible with a variety of operating
environments. The design is based on a platform-independent UNIX server
and TCP/IP networking. This design allows unlimited "scalability" so that
one server can distribute filtered, real-time news to thousands of users
on a wide-area network. User interface software is available in Windows,
UNIX, or Macintosh versions, and an Application Programmer's Interface
(API) enables custom integration into other applications.

News Agent provides the MIS administrator with extensive facilities for
controlling user access and costs. The user organization also can easily
distribute its own private data through the system as, in effect, an
internal news feed.

A popular News Agent option is real-time news "profiling." A user's profile
delineates the subjects or categories of news stories wanted. The full
text of each arriving story is analyzed for relevance to one's profile and
matching stories are delivered immediately to one's workstation.

Advanced News Agent capabilities include intelligent concept-searching,
which uses knowledge about how English words and phrases are constructed.
It automatically identifies grammatical variations and misspellings, and
"concept expansion" is available to find news stories containing words
related the user's query terms.

Founded in 1935, Investment Dealers' Digest is a full service multimedia
financial publishing, database, software and consulting company that has
served the professional investor community for many years. News Agent was
developed by the GARI Software Associates division of IDD.
