KINGDOM: THE FAR REACHES

Interplay Ships Kingdom: The Far Reaches, A New Animated Fantasy Adventure
For The Entire Family To Enjoy

May 17, 1995 -- Irvine, California -- Interplay Productions and Virtual
Image Productions today announced that the epic title Kingdom: The Far
Reaches is now available on CD-ROM for IBM and 100% compatible computers.
The first in a series of Kingdom titles slated for development, it is an
all-new multimedia adventure with the look and feel of an "interactive"
storybook.

From the creator of Dragon's Lair, Kingdom: The Far Reaches combines
stunning animation and intriguing puzzles to create an amazing world of
majesty and power in the role-playing tradition.

"This is the perfect game for the new generation of computing families,"
said Jerry Luttrell, marketing manager for Interplay. "Kingdom: The Far
Reaches allows all types of players -- from young to old, novice to
experienced -- to become immersed in the adventure. The easy-to-use
interface and countless locations to discover and explore in this magical
kingdom will provide hours of entertainment for the whole family."

The adventure takes place long ago in the land of Five Kingdoms where an
amulet, known as "The Hand," was shattered into five pieces and hidden --
one piece for each of the Five Kingdoms. Dark magic spread throughout the
land and the evil wizard Torlok began his reign of terror and suffering.
Now, the fate of the Five Kingdoms rests on the shoulders of young Lathan,
the last of the Argent Kings. His challenge is to seek out and rejoin the
shattered pieces of the talisman, thereby restoring freedom to a doomed
world. Taking advantage of the vast resources available on the CD-ROM
format, Kingdom: The Far Reaches is filled with 500 megabytes of animated
cartoon sequences.

More than 57,000 hand-painted animation cels were transformed into
state-of-the-art, full-motion video to create this spectacular visual
journey. These impressive production values are complemented with
beautifully painted maps with a unique "zoom" feature for detailed views
of every landscape. The characters are brought to life through the use of
professional voice actors. Kingdom: The Far Reaches also features a rich
musical score that was composed by a group of talented musicians renowned
for their work with Walt Disney Feature Animation.

Over 30 magic spells and items provide players with the necessary tools to
combat the evil that threatens to stand in their way. Hidden puzzles and
changing features create new challenges for adventure at every turn in
this non-linear game which enables players to choose their own paths. The
simple point-and-click interface allows for immediate play. Two levels of
difficulty are built in to ensure that both novice and advanced players
will find Kingdom: The Far Reaches to be an exciting and challenging quest
at every turn.

The Phillips' CD-i version of Kingdom: The Far Reaches won last year's
Compact Disc Interactive Award. The DOS CD-ROM version of Kingdom: The Far
Reaches was produced by Thomas R. Decker, a veteran producer for
Interplay. Decker's previous achievements include the recently-released
Mario's Game Gallery and Mario Teaches Typing. Decker is currently working
on Interplay's recently-announced NetRunner and the soon-to-be-released
Bridge Deluxe II With Omar Sharif.

Currently available for IBM and 100% compatibles, Kingdom: The Far Reaches
requires a minimum 386SX or better with 2MB of RAM running DOS 3.3 or
higher, and a 256 color VGA card with a mouse and hard drive. An MPC
compliant CD-ROM is also required. Kingdom: The Far Reaches will be
available for 3DO from Interplay in the third quarter of 1995. It will
also be available for the Macintosh from MacPlay in the third quarter of
1995.

Headquartered in Julian, CA, Virtual Image Productions (VIP) develops
interactive games for the CD-based and coin-operated markets. The
remarkable imagination behind VIP's award-winning productions is Rick
Dyer, president and chief executive officer of the company. In addition to
creating Dragon's Lair, the world's first full-animation video game and
one of only two games on display at the Smithsonian Institute, Mr. Dyer
has employed his unique creative abilities to develop Space Ace, another
top-selling animated adventure, and Time Traveler, the first holographic
coin-operated game.
