Lexmark Unveils Next Generation Of Network Printer Management

--MarkVision Support Expands to More Than 30 Network Environments--

GREENWICH, CT., June 12, 1995 ...Lexmark International Inc. today announced
the next generation of MarkVision, the company's industry-leading network
printer management tool. The new release includes extensive enhancements
and expands network support to a total of more than 30 environments. The
new MarkVision release supports Lexmark's Optra family, 4039 plus family
and Color Jetprinter 4079 plus printers and is immediately available.

Today's announcement further strengthens Lexmark's technological leadership
in network printer management and represents an ongoing step in strategic
relationships between Lexmark and major networking companies such as IBM,
Microsoft and Novell.

With the new version of MarkVision, users and network administrators gain
additional technology to help them manage their network printers remotely,
including paging services, Remote Operator Panel (ROP) and remote
attachments to the network via TCP/IP.

These enhancements include:

** New Environments. Among the 30-plus network environments MarkVision
supports are Microsoft's NT Server (NTS) and LAN Manager, IBM's OS/2 LAN
Server, Novell NetWare, Apple Macintosh and more than nine different UNIX
host systems.

** MarkVision for Windows IP. MarkVision now supports the IP protocol from
Windows and Windows for Workgroups versions 3.1 and 3.11 client
workstations. This enables MarkVision for Windows to communicate via
TCP/IP directly to a Lexmark Optra, 4039 plus or Color Jetprinter 4079
plus printer with a MarkNet XL Internal Network Adapter (INA) or the
MarkNet XLe External Network Adapter (ENA). In addition, with this
function network managers can now dial into the network and manage their
printers remotely.

** Paging Services. Lexmark brings pager notification services to
MarkVision for Windows later this year with PageNet and Fourth Wave
Software, allowing users to send status alerts to LAN managers while away
from their consoles.

** MarkVision for UNIX. The new MarkVision for UNIX supports more than nine
UNIX environments. MarkVision for UNIX allows network administrators
operating in a UNIX TCP/IP environment to have advanced network printer
management capabilities similar to those provided by the MarkVision for
Windows application.

** Remote Operator Panel. With the Remote Operator Panel (ROP), MarkVision
enables network administrators to view the complete printer operator panel
remotely from their workstation and configure the printer by "pushing the
operator panel buttons" just as though they were standing at the printer.

OS/2 Warp and LAN Server 4.0. With the new Network PrinterPak for OS/2 Warp
and LAN Server 4.0, OS/2 users can now take advantage of the latest
instrumentation and bi-directional technologies implemented in network and
personal printers. The OS/2 Network PrinterPak, available through Lexmark
and IBM, includes the ROP and the Lexmark Network Printer Utility for easy
installation of printers on the network. Additionally, Lexmark will
provide an OS/2 Presentation Manager version of MarkVision later this
year.

** Automated installation/driver update. MarkVision now supports an
automated network installation, allowing for automatic driver updates and
improved printing management. In "Quiet Mode," MarkVision automatically
installs updated printer drivers.

** MarkVision for Macintosh. MarkVision for Macintosh provides advanced
printer management capabilities for AppleTalk printers connected in an
EtherTalk, TokenTalk or LocalTalk environments. In addition, for the 4079
plus, and 4039 plus and Optra families, MarkVision for Macintosh provides
ROP and smart printer icons.

** Enhanced user interface. The network printer smart icons in MarkVision
now contain the server and queue name. This makes it easier to identify
the specific network attached printer.

** Job Statistics. A job accounting macro for Lotus 123 and Microsoft Excel
is now available to assist in analyzing MarkVision job statistics. The job
statistics feature has been extended to the MarkVision for Macintosh
environment as well.

** MarkVision for Novell's NDS. MarkVision for NDS provides network printer
management for Optra and 4039 plus families, and 4079 plus printers
attached to Novell NetWare 4.x networks. Lexmark is the first network
printer manufacturer to offer this level of printer status information and
management to end users on the NDS environment.

** MarkVision integration with ManageWise. Lexmark is integrating
MarkVision into ManageWise, a network management utility jointly developed
by Novell and Intel. ManageWise provides a means of managing the entire
Novell network. Now network administrators can launch MarkVision directly
from the ManageWise console. By using ManageWise's graphical user
interface (GUI), MarkVision provides a simple and powerful means of
managing all Lexmark network printers and print servers. In addition,
Lexmark's support of the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) over
Novell's native protocol (IPX) enables other SNMP-based management
applications to manage Lexmark's print servers.

Lexmark's current network printing products offer a broad range of
compatibility for all leading operating system environments. Lexmark's
Optra printer family supports 1,200 x 1,200 dpi printing and up to two
MarkNet or MarkNet XL INAs with multiprotocol capabilities that support
printing from more than 30 network environments including Novell NetWare,
Microsoft Windows NTS, IBM OS/2 LAN Server, Banyan VINES and a full
spectrum of UNIX environments.

Lexmark International is an independent worldwide company that develops,
manufactures and markets network and personal printers, typewriters,
information processing supplies and keyboards.
