DELVE INTO THE DEPTHS OF STRATEGY AND FANTASY WITH MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Stand-alone and On-line Multiplayer Versions in Development

MicroProse Software, Inc., a subsidiary of Spectrum HoloByte, Inc. (NASDAQ:
SBYT), looks forward to the release of Magic: The Gathering, the software
game. Filled with wizards, spell casting and strategy, the Magic software
game is based on Wizards of the Coast's popular trading card game of the
same name that has sold more than 500 million cards to date.

There are two ways to play Magic: The Gathering:

With the stand-alone game, the apprentice mode acts as a tutorial because
it gives beginners the chance to learn about the game and gain confidence
in their playing ability. Once beginners are more knowledgeable about the
game, they may play any deck they can imagine with the 1,000 cards
available against the computer or artificial intelligence (AI) or play a
quest-based story game that emulates the on-line environment.

The multiplayer game allows on-line gamers to challenge other players.
Players will be able to duel one player at a time, yet the number of
simultaneous network users will be large and expandable. In the
round-table area, people may interact, trade and chat with other players,
making it a social environment.

Players build their decks with certain colors. A gamer may have a
predominately one-colored deck or use several of the five different colors
to compete. Each color represents a different type of magic.

* Black Magic's power comes from the swamps and bogs and
  thrives on death and decay.
* Blue Magic receives its power from islands and uses deception
and the strength of air and water to achieve its goals.
* Green Magic taps from the forest's energy. While it
represents life, it can also be incredibly destructive.
* Red Magic derives its power from the mountains and represents
  earth, fire, chaos and war.
* White Magic uses its ability to heal and protect to gain the
upper-hand. Its power comes from the plains.

Enjoy a multidimensional computer game with aspects of role-playing,
adventure and strategy. Gamers can:

* Collect and trade cards to build a library of magic spells to
increase power to duel other wizards
* View stunning, high resolution, Super VGA original art from
the card game including cards from the basic set and four
  expansion sets
* Learn the rules through MicroProse's revolutionary artificial
intelligence that clearly explains the game
* Play a stand-alone version or the multiplayer on-line version
