NETCOM doubles subscriber base in first half of 1995

CONTINUED STRONG MARKET DEMAND FOR DIRECT INTERNET ACCESS

San Jose, California, June 6, 1995 -- NETCOM On-Line Communication
Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: NETC) today announced that it has more than
doubled its subscriber base since the first of the year. The Company's
subscriber base now totals over 150,000, up from 72,500 in December 1994,
further strengthening NETCOM's position as a leading provider of direct
Internet access nationwide.

This rapid growth mirrors industry trends which indicate substantial market
growth of individual subscribers to the Internet. For example, Link/IDC,
an independent research firm in Framingham, MA, predicts that the number
of individual Internet subscribers will total 82 million users by 1999.

"There's obviously phenomenal interest in the Internet today. We find that
users are searching for an easy way to get on and around the Net. NETCOM's
award-winning software, NetCruiser, meets this need." stated David
Garrison, President and Chief Executive Officer for NETCOM. "Our goal has
been to bring the Internet to the broadest audience. We do that by
offering a complete solution incorporating plug and play connectivity,
cost-effective pricing, local access through our nationwide high-speed
digital network, and 24 hour customer support."

Offering a more cost-effective method of tapping directly into the
Internet, NETCOM provides local telephone numbers to subscribers in over
100 markets nationwide. Local access is facilitated by NETCOM's
award-winning graphical interface, NetCruiserTM, which enables simple Net
navigation via point-and-click menus. The software is available in over
2,000 retail outlets nationwide as well as through bundling agreements
with leading computer hardware, software, and publishing companies. Since
its introduction in July, 1994, NetCruiser for Windows has helped propel
NETCOM's strong subscriber growth.

NETCOM

NETCOM On-Line Communication Services, Inc. provides high-quality,
low-cost, nationwide Internet access over a proprietary high-speed digital
network. A public company since December 1994, NETCOM has experienced
substantial growth in both its subscriber base and the number of direct
access points by aggressively building a nationwide network. Because
NETCOM operates its own TCP/IP network, the backbone technology of the
Internet, NetCruiser users benefit from a stable, reliable network at low
prices, in addition to a friendly Windows-based user interface.
