PRISM SOLUTIONS ALIGNS WITH ORACLE'S WAREHOUSE TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE
OFFERING NEW PRODUCTS TO DATA WAREHOUSING CUSTOMERS

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 21, 1995 - Prism Solutions, Inc. today
announced its participation in the Oracle Warehouse Technology Initiative
(WTI), along with new product offerings that extend its support for
building, maintaining and navigating Oracle data warehouses. New Prism
Changed Data Capture and Prism Warehouse Update software products automate
the maintenance of Oracle data warehouse environments, while the Prism
Directory Manager software now allows customers to import Oracle CASE
models into an integrated Information Directory of data warehouse meta
data.

These new offerings enhance the capabilities already provided by the Prism
Warehouse Manager software, which generates code to integrate, transform
and map source data to a data warehouse target database. Prism Warehouse
Manager has been used to build Oracle data warehouses by leading companies
such as Mobil Oil, Rocky Mountain Health Care, Standard Insurance, and
Xerox Corporation.

The Oracle Warehouse Technology Initiative (WTI) is a new alliance program
that provides customers with a complete data warehousing solution based on
the industry-leading Oracle7 database and other complementary Oracle and
third-party software products. The program is designed to increase the
quantity and quality of Oracle-based data warehousing solutions, providing
customers with greater choice, specialized tools, Oracle-optimized
products and streamlined support as they implement data warehouse
technology.

Prism's Changed Data Capture Refreshes the Warehouse

Prism's Changed Data Capture software saves significant processing time in
refreshing data warehouses by capturing current or near-current changed
data from Oracle tables used as source files for a warehouse. It processes
the Oracle logs to generate full delta change records, then transfers the
changed data to Prism Warehouse Manager for transformation and integration
into the data warehouse. By capturing only the delta changes in Oracle
source files, Prism's Changed Data Capture eliminates the need for users
to pass their entire legacy files through Prism Warehouse Manager's
generated COBOL programs. All changes are maintained with a timestamp in
Prism Warehouse Manager's meta data to ensure version control, and the
meta data can be exported to Prism Directory Manager for integration into
the Information Directory. In addition, customers can apply the changed
data to the data warehouse at user-defined intervals to synchronize and
manage refresh levels.

Changed Data Capture can also be used to create an integrated collection of
current or near-current data called an operational data store (ODS). While
the data warehouse contains snapshots of summarized, historical data
spanning several years, the ODS typically contains only 30 to 60 days
worth of current detailed data in support of day-to-day, operational
decisions. Because of the frequency with which the ODS must be refreshed,
automation tools such as Prism's Changed Data Capture provide significant
time savings and cost benefits to companies maintaining ODSs.

Prism Warehouse Update Simplifies Warehouse Maintenance

Prism Warehouse Update software eases data warehouse maintenance by
allowing users to apply changes to rows in an Oracle data warehouse
environment. It accepts as input a sequential file containing update
records from a user-written application or from Prism's Changed Data
Capture software. Prism Warehouse Manager then processes the update
records as input and generates a COBOL program with embedded SQL data
manipulation language (DML) to replace, insert or delete one or more rows
in the tables of an Oracle data warehouse or ODS.

Carl Cichetti manager of Global Data Management Applications at Xerox
Corporation, states that "the cost-effective, efficient maintenance of the
entire data warehouse environment, including associated datamarts and
operational datastores, is critical to the implementation of our Global
Data Warehouse Architecture. This ongoing maintenance not only provides
for enterprise-wide decision support data, but also enables the transition
from legacy applications to re-engineered applications. Prism's data
warehouse management software enables the implementation of that
architecture, bringing significant value to the Xerox IM Vision and giving
Xerox a global competitive advantage."

Oracle CASE Models Now Imported by Prism Directory Manager

With Prism Directory Manager, Oracle customers now can build an integrated
Information Directory of data warehouse meta data that incorporates
logical models from Oracle CASE with technical meta data from Prism
Warehouse Manager. Prism Directory Manager helps users locate relevant
information for analysis by creating a comprehensive view of warehouse
information expressed in both business and technical terms.

Prism Directory Manager imports logical models from Oracle CASE using a
reader that converts the Oracle CASE export file into CDIF (CASE Data
Interchange Format) format. It then integrates the Oracle CASE information
with meta data from Prism Warehouse Manager describing the source files,
output tables, data transformations and data mappings used during
warehouse development.

Pricing and Availability

Prism's Changed Data Capture and Prism Warehouse Update software are priced
at $25,000 each and are available as optional modules for Prism Warehouse
Manager. Both products will be generally available for Oracle data
warehouse environments in September 1995. Prism Directory Manager is
priced at $35,000 for the repository engine and $500 per seat. It will be
generally available for Oracle servers in August 1995.
