CHEYENNE SOFTWARE AND SANTA CRUZ OPERATION PARTNER TO OFFER BUSINESS
CRITICAL DATA MANAGEMENT FOR INTEL-BASED UNIX PLATFORMS

SCO TO SHIP CUSTOMIZED VERSION OF CHEYENNE ARCSERVE/OPEN BACKUP AND RESTORE
TECHNOLOGY WITH SCO

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y.-- Cheyenne Software Inc. (AMEX:CYE), a world leader in
the development of storage management software, today announced that it
has signed a letter of intent with Santa Cruz Operation Inc. (SCO) to
provide state-of-the-art backup and restore technology for SCO's entire
line of business critical software.

The leading UNIX operating system developer for Intel processor-based
platforms, SCO will ship a customized version of Cheyenne ARCserve/Open
for UNIX backup software with every SCO OpenServer operating system sold.
In addition, SCO will market the full version of Cheyenne ARCserve/Open
for UNIX, to provide a feature-rich complement of data management
capabilities, to its UNIX system customer base. The terms of the
relationship are subject to a final agreement.

"Our customers depend on our SCO OpenServer systems to run business
critical transaction based processes due to its minicomputer and levels of
Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) combined with
exceptional price/performance, value and flexibility," said Scott
McGregor, vice president of product development for SCO. "Cheyenne's
technology is well known for offering these high levels of product
performance in data security to its customer base and our customers will
enjoy the bullet-proof data protection that will result from this
partnership."

SCO's recently announced (May 9, 1995) OpenServer, Release 5 software is
designed expressly for business critical computing needs, such as running
multi-user, transaction-based DBMS and business applications, installing
communications gateways, and providing mail and messaging servers in both
host and client/server environments. In addition to exceptional value and
price performance, SCO OpenServer systems deliver extensible networking
with existing LANs and WANs; easy integration with Windows desktops;
built-in Internet access and services; simplified administration and
management; and outstanding scalability for long-term growth. SCO
OpenServer systems outsold Sun, IBM, HP and Novell in multi-user UNIX
System server and host unit shipments combined in 1994. (Source: IDC 12/94
analysis).

Cheyenne ARCserve/Open enhances OpenServer's abilities by employing
state-of-the-art client/server technology that can backup data at speeds
of over 100MB per minute on a single tape drive. Further performance gains
are achieved via Cheyenne's Parallel Streaming feature which increases
throughput by back up to, and restoring from, several devices
simultaneously. ARCserve/Open's Changer Option provides fully automated,
high capacity data management while eliminating the need for extensive
tape handling.

Autochangers can increase data storage capacity without chaining additional
tape drives. For example, when a backup operation exceeds one tape, the
operation can be automatically continued to the next tape in the magazine,
reducing tape handling for the operator.

"SCO and Cheyenne have complimentary product strategies for meeting the
needs of both UNIX and PC LAN users," said Jon Greene, Cheyenne UNIX
product manager. "Cheyenne's UNIX offerings will continue to provide the
best-of-breed data protection combined with the ease-of-use and reduced
cost of ownership, which are so important to our customers."

Cheyenne's UNIX software suite includes ARCserve/Open for all the major
UNIX platforms including SCO OpenServer, Sun Microsystem's SunOS, Sun
Solaris, Hewlett Packard's HP-UX, IBM's AIX, Silicon Graphics Irix (client
support only) and DEC Ultrix (client support only). Client agents for
Windows and NetWare are available to provide the interoperability needed
for UNIX systems. Database agents for Oracle 6.x and 7.x provide on-line
backup of mission-critical corporate databases. In a separate release,
Cheyenne announced Hierarchical Storage Management for UNIX, offering
expanded on-line storage capabilities for today's growing networks.
