Silicon Graphics' Merger with Alias Research and Wavefront Technologies
Cleared Through Federal Trade Commission Consent Order

COMPANIES EXPECT TO FINALIZE MERGERS ON SCHEDULE

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (June 9, 1995) - Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NYSE: SGI)
today announced it has consented to the entry of a Federal Trade
Commission order that permits the completion of its previously announced
mergers with Alias Research Inc. (NASDAQ:ADDF), and Wavefront
Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WAVE). The consent order, which was approved
by an FTC vote on June 9, completes the FTC inquiry into the mergers, and
terminates the transaction waiting period mandated by federal law. Silicon
Graphics expects to finalize the mergers within a few days after Alias and
Wavefront stockholder meetings scheduled for June 12, 1995.

Under terms of the consent order, Silicon Graphics will negotiate a porting
agreement with one other major UNIXworkstation vendor to make the Alias
Animator and Power Animator software products available on that vendor's
systems. The porting agreement must be finalized by March 31, 1996 and is
subject to prior FTC approval, with porting completed as soon as
reasonably practicable once the porting agreement is final. The porting
arrangements will be managed by the new Silicon Graphics subsidiary that
will combine the businesses of Alias and Wavefront.

The consent order also requires Silicon Graphics to continue to adhere to
certain practices in support of independent software developers, including
maintaining an open computing architecture and an open, independent
software developer program. The consent order will become final upon
approval by the FTC after a required 60-day period for public comment.

"The agreement with the FTC allows us to close the mergers on schedule, and
to get on with the business of creating a new subsidiary that will
revolutionize the process of digital content authoring," said Edward R.
McCracken, chairman and chief executive officer of Silicon Graphics. "We
are very pleased with this outcome, and with the enthusiasm and support of
our customers who have endorsed our view that these mergers will promote
open competition and innovation."
