Siemens Nixdorf intensifies cooperation with Novell - UnixWare 2 for PCs
now also available

May 24, 1995 -- Paderborn/Munich -- Siemens Nixdorf took the opportunity
presented by the BrainShare Europe Conference in Nice to announce that
Novell's UNIX operating system UnixWare 2 will be offered for their PC
systems. This represents a logical step in implementing Siemens Nixdorf's
strategy for expanding UNIX for the PC market. Alongside UnixWare 2,
Siemens Nixdorf will continue to support other UNIX operating systems in
the PC field.

Siemens Nixdorf offers its PC customers opting for UnixWare 2 a further
opening to the UNIX market, since a multitude of application software and
middleware products will run on UnixWare 2 without any problem. At the
same time, Siemens Nixdorf will be porting selected middleware products
from Sinix for PC to UnixWare 2, thus providing users currently employing
Sinix on a PC with a simple means of switching to a widely-used type of PC
UNIX. Sinix - the SVR4-based UNIX operating system - is Siemens Nixdorf's
strategic platform for the RISC server line (RM systems).

Plus points for UnixWare 2 as an additional UNIX operating system for
Siemens Nixdorf PCs include not just its excellent functionality and
performance, but also its ease of handling and the similarity of the
UnixWare 2 kernel to Sinix. As a result of the cooperation and the
associated entry into the UNIX market, Siemens Nixdorf is anticipating a
further boost to its PC server business. Siemens Nixdorf will continue to
support its own Sinix on PC products, as well as ensuring the
executability of SCO Unix and Solaris. This means that in the future,
customers will enjoy a broad variety of available operating systems.
