STARNINE SHIPS LISTSTAR, FIRST COMMERCIAL LISTSTAR FOR THE MACINTOSH

Internet-style listservers and email-on-demand are now easy to implement,
at low cost

BERKELEY, Calif. June 23, 1995 -- StarNine Technologies, Inc. today
announced that it is shipping ListSTAR, a robust automated email processor
for the Macintosh, available at low introductory pricing. Now, users can
create and maintain listservers and email-on-demand systems on their
Macintosh, eliminating the need for expensive UNIX systems and complicated
software like Majordomo.

Email Publishing Revolution

ListSTAR's listserver function facilitates in-house communication and
collaboration by enabling email discussion groups and distribution of
information via centrally managed lists. Listservers also enable external
communications such as on-line focus groups and project discussions on the
Internet, allowing anyone with an email account to participate. Similarly,
on-line newsletters are quickly and easily disseminated via the Internet.

ListSTAR's email-on-demand capability can be used within organizations to
distribute information such as technical support notes, policy documents
or classroom schedules. Similar to fax-on-demand systems, marketers can
use email-on-demand systems to provide product and pricing information or
evaluation software to customers.

"ListSTAR is a powerful mass communications tool that lets you publish any
kind of information via email to highly targeted groups," said Tom
Biddulph, founder and CEO of StarNine. "Listserver mailing lists and
email-on-demand are among the easiest ways to collaborate, discuss ideas,
and reach new markets on the Internet. ListSTAR can also be used
internally on local area networks as a highly efficient means of
distributing information within an organization."

Intuitive Interface

ListSTAR administrators use a very intuitive point and click interface to
configure the rules associated with a particular ListSTAR service.
Listservers send and receive email by using a dedicated email account,
with rules that automatically add and delete subscribers to mailing lists,
forward email to list members, compile a digest of the list discussions,
etc.

Similarly, an email-on-demand system uses rules to automatically reply to
requesters with data formatted either as simple text messages or as binary
attachments. ListSTAR is used to create menus of available information and
help messages as well as provide the actual content.

"I'm amazed by how easy ListSTAR is to use," said Jim Mann, director,
technology resources, Antioch College. "Myself and another former student
just spent the last 13 weeks trying to make Majordomo run on our UNIX
machine...after 13 weeks we still couldn't generate the first mail list. I
installed ListSTAR on a Mac PPC 8100 and had users subscribed to my first
list within an hour!"

Dramatically Lower Costs With New Functionality

ListSTAR users not only bypass the need for expensive UNIX systems and
complex software such as Majordomo, but they also gain powerful new
capabilities with ListSTAR's extensible rules architecture. For example,
ListSTAR's support for AppleScript allows administrators to create Web
front-ends to their listservers and email-on-demand systems. This allows
Web users to easily subscribe and unsubscribe to ListSTAR mailing lists,
retrieve list digests, and request files by email.

"Because configuring rules in ListSTAR is easy and flexible, administrators
can create highly customized services to meet their specific needs,"
explained David Thompson, director of marketing for StarNine. "Using
ListSTAR's AppleScript support, services can act as email front-ends to
information in other scriptable applications, such as FileMaker Pro."

Versions For LAN-Mail And SMTP

ListSTAR is available in four versions -- three for use with popular
Macintosh LAN-mail systems and a high-performance SMTP version. The
LAN-mail versions of ListSTAR make it easy for an administrator to
integrate ListSTAR with their QuickMail, Microsoft Mail for AppleTalk or
POP3 email system. ListSTAR accesses and routes email through the LAN-mail
server.

Through July 31, 1995, ListSTAR for either QuickMail, Microsoft Mail or
POP3 is available directly from StarNine for $199. After July 31, 1995,
the Suggested Retail Price will be $295. Significant discounts are
available to education sites.

The SMTP version of ListSTAR is configured as an independent SMTP host on a
TCP/IP network and provides much more efficient email processing. Through
July 31, 1995, ListSTAR for SMTP is priced at $349. After July 31, the
Suggested Retail Price will be $795. Significant discounts are available
to education sites.

ListSTAR is now available for purchase electronically via the Internet at
http://www.starnine.com. ListSTAR with an expanded suite of tools will be
available on floppy disc and CD-ROM at the end of July. Additional
information, free trial versions, and on-line order forms for ListSTAR are
available on StarNine's home page at http://www.starnine.com. StarNine
Sales can also be reached at 1-800-525-2580.

Any Mac Can Be An Email Publisher

The basic requirements for any Macintosh to become a Listserver and
email-on-demand site include: System 7, a minimum of 4 megabytes of RAM.
The SMTP and POP3 versions also require either an LAN connection and/or a
connection to the Internet, ranging from a SLIP or PPP modem connection to
a T3 line, and MacTCP software (provided).
