Trinzic Introduces Trinzic RuleServer

First Server-Based Environment For Distributed Business Rules Processing;
Provides Environment for Extending PowerBuilder and Visual Basic
Applications

BOSTON, Massachusetts, June 14, 1995--Trinzic Corporation (NASDAQ:TRNZ)
today announced Trinzic RuleServer, a distributed business rules
processing engine for the implementation of enterprise applications.

The Trinzic RuleServer technology is based on a three-tiered
approach--intuitive graphical user interfaces, data access and application
logic--for deploying applications incorporating complex business logic and
rules. With Trinzic RuleServer, business logic and rules are partitioned
on the server, acting as a "business rules repository." This complex
business logic can then be accessed easily by a variety of applications
running on clients throughout the organization.

Applications like sales order entry, inventory update and customer service
that are written in 3GLs or 4GLs can be extended easily to take advantage
of business policies like pricing, product allocation, and credit
authorization.

Complete applications built with Trinzic's Aion Development System (AionDS)
have always been able to take advantage of the rule engine to build
complex logic in applications such as underwriting, scheduling and
monitoring regulatory compliance. Using Trinzic RuleServer, applications
can now be automatically partitioned, with the user interface code running
on the client and the rules processing on the server.

At a press briefing held here today, Bob Payne, Vice President and General
Manager of Trinzic's Application Development Group, remarked "Trinzic has
a tradition of providing application development solutions incorporating
business logic and rules. Trinzic RuleServer technology extends the
expertise we've achieved with products such as AionDS."

"We are leveraging a powerful technology to the client/server application
development world that actually will increase the value of systems built
with tools like PowerBuilder and Visual Basic. Organizations can develop
the business rules that make them unique and store them on a server, and
then incorporate those business rules in all of their applications."

"Compaq applauds Trinzic for bringing powerful rules processing technology
to industry-standard server platforms like the Compaq ProLian, which
provides robust levels of performance, scalability and reliability," said
Jeff Erramouspe, director of systems software marketing, Compaq Computer
Corporation. "As businesses continue to deploy mission critical
applications on Compaq ProLiant Systems, they will require enterprise
class tools such as Trinzic RuleServer.

Extending Applications Built With Third Party 4GLs

Trinzic RuleServer can be implemented in conjunction with ObjectPro,
Trinzic's easy-to-learn object-oriented development tool. It can also be
used with third-party 4GLs such as Microsoft's Visual Basic or Powersoft's
PowerBuilder. The 4GL is used to develop the GUI, and is extended by
calling to Trinzic RuleServer to perform the business logic of a specific
application.

For example, a Visual Basic sales order entry application might make a call
to Trinzic RuleServer to generate the final price for all the ordered
items. The Trinzic RuleServer component of the application could examine
the customer's ordering history, the market demand for the products, and
the inventory available. It could then generate the price quote that
maximizes the profit to the vendor and the discount to the customer. The
Visual Basic application simply calls a routine that invokes the Trinzic
RuleServer. This action is similar to calling any other external program;
no knowledge of network protocols or communication programming is
necessary.

Rapid Prototyping with Flexible and Powerful Deployment

Trinzic RuleServer allows flexibility in the location of the business
logic. All models of synchronous and asynchronous connections are
supported. Using Trinzic RuleServer, the developer builds the business
rules portion of the application in an interactive prototyping fashion.
The application is tested on a single machine, gaining all the benefits of
a Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach. When ready to deploy the
application, the developer simply transfers the rule base to Trinzic
RuleServer, recompiles it, and calls a local DLL, which handles all the
communication and network protocol issues.

Trinzic RuleServer uses DCE for communication, security, and user name
services. DCE is the industry standard for complex client/server
architectures in a heterogeneous environment.

Trinzic RuleServer's complete three-tier solution provides the following
benefits:

Scalability: Large, complex applications may be built and maintained using
Rapid Application Development techniques and powerful rule processing
technology. Additional servers to support additional end users can be
added at any time.

Manageability: An application running across heterogeneous clients and
servers can be controlled and react to changes in user populations and the
business logic in Trinzic RuleServer. For example, when updating the
pricing rules, changes need to be made only to the Trinzic RuleServer;
code on all the clients remains unchanged.

Networkability: Where appropriate, the application can be partitioned to
reduce network traffic. For example, the business rules server could be
running on the same physical machine as the database server for
applications where there is significant database interaction.

Security: Access to critical data and resources, including applications,
can be controlled and authenticated.

Pricing and Availability

Trinzic expects Trinzic RuleServer to begin beta testing in the third
quarter of 1995, with general availability for the IBM OS/2 operating
environment during the fourth quarter of calendar year 1995. Versions for
UNIX-based environments are expected to ship in 1996. Pricing and
packaging information will be available upon product shipment.
