Dual Channel DSP for Machine Vision Applications

June 1, 1995 -- Wintriss Engineering (San Diego, CA) has introduced the
PC-based OPSIS 1000L Vision System for process measurement, assembly
verification, and other industrial applications. The OPSIS Vision System
uses one or two Wintriss high speed line scan cameras for imaging. Camera
resolution and scan rates are adjustable, with up to 5150 pixels and
61,200 lines/sec available. Each camera digitizes video to 8 bits/pixel
oncamera and transmits this data using the Cypress HOTLink at 330Mbits/sec
to a dual-channel DSP board. Each channel of the OPSIS DSP board provides
FPGA pipelined processing at 40MHz on the front end, coupled with 40MHz
digital signal processing on the back end. The DSP, FPGA, and PC ISA bus
arbitrate for access to the video via an 80MB/sec tri-ported memory
scheme. Each channel has up to 4MB of fast SRAM available. Wintriss
Engineering is developing custom machine vision solutions using the OPSIS
1000L Vision System, in single or multiple camera configurations. The
price for a single-camera OPSIS Vision System is $3,800 in small
quantities.
