XIRCOM ANNOUNCES REMOTE ACCESS PRODUCT ROADMAP

Company to Offer Complete Set of Remote Access Solutions: Client and
Server, Analog and Digital

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., April 12, 1995 -- Xircom, Inc. (Nasdaq: XIRC), the
leader in networking solutions for mobile users, today announced its
remote access product roadmap, designed to provide a complete set of
end-to-end connectivity solutions for mobile workers who make up the
Mobile Office, Home Office (MOHO) market segment. Xircom remote access
solutions will include a complete selection of products and technologies
for users who need single-client connectivity to the LAN -- road warriors,
telecommuters and day extenders.

Xircom's products and services are designed to simplify and enhance mobile
users' ability to access network data from remote locations and improve
network performance for bandwidth-intensive remote access applications
such as access to the Internet and on-line services.

A Complete Set of Remote Access Solutions.

"Our goal is to provide mobile workers with a complete and compelling set
of solutions for all their remote access needs -- client and server,
analog and digital," said Dirk Gates, Xircom president and CEO. "Our
product line will include adapters, subsystems, and services unmatched by
any vendor."

Leveraging the Power of Network Operating Systems.

The company's remote access products will complement and leverage the
growing sophistication and power of local-area network operating systems
(NOSs). With NOSs such as Novell NetWare, Microsoft NT, and Apple System
7.x with ARA, network managers can create multiprotocol remote access
servers from existing standard PC file and communication servers,
eliminating the need for expensive, proprietary solutions.

These NOSs provide user-transparent dial-in access to the network, making
remote network access as easy as local network access. Xircom's remote
access products take advantage of the powerful remote access capabilities
built into this software, making it simple for network managers to create
systems remote access servers that meet the needs of the remote user.

Analog and Digital. Xircom's broad set of remote access solutions will
feature a wide variety of client and server solutions available for either
analog or digital remote connectivity. Today, analog modems remain the
most popular method of remote connectivity, with more than 80 percent of
laptop computers equipped with PCMCIA modems for fax and data
applications. This number continues to grow as low-cost, high-speed modems
become widely available.

Recently, ISDN digital network services have become widely available and
affordable, providing a highly functional, digital connectivity
alternative to analog telephones. With data rates nearly ten times that of
today's most popular analog modems, it is expected that ISDN will become
the technology of choice for remote LAN access, Internet access, and
telecommuting. ISDN speeds also facilitate a number of new applications
that were previously impossible due to bandwidth constraints.

Client Products.

Xircom remote access client products will include a complete line of PCMCIA
modems; PCMCIA, ISAbus, PCI, and parallel port ISDN adapters; and
multifunction PCMCIA adapters, such as the CreditCard Ethernet+Modem(
adapter. Multifunction adapters -- a product segment that Xircom created
and pioneered -- will be a key component of Xircom's product solution for
mobile laptop users. The company will expand its multifunction adapter
offerings by combining technologies that best meet the demanding
environment of networked mobile computing.

Server Products.

Planned remote access server products include Xircom's current analog
solution, the Netaccess Multiport Modem Card, as well as ISAbus and PCI
ISDN BRI adapters and ISAbus and PCI ISDN PRI adapters. All of these
products will be available in a variety of port densities.

ISDN Services.

Xircom also will offer a number of services to smooth the transition from
analog to digital for the user. The company will provide ISDN provisioning
support, helping end users and resellers to assess ISDN availability and
place line service orders nationwide via a single 1-800 telephone call.
Working in concert with the Regional Bell Operating Companies and other
ISDN providers, Xircom will simplify ordering and reduce installation
time. Special customer services such as pre-configuration of equipment,
on-site wiring, and equipment installation support will also be
available.

Product Roadmap.

Over the coming months, Xircom will begin delivering the various products
that make up this broad solution set.
