Adobe Systems to Offer Authoring Tools For the Microsoft Network

Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator To Be Integrated with
Microsoft "Blackbird"

Mountain View, Calif., (July 18, 1995) (Nasdaq: ADBE) -- Adobe Systems
Incorporated today announced that it is working with Microsoft Corporation
to facilitate the creation and distribution of graphically-rich content
over the Microsoft Network. In addition, this development will allow
publishers another easy and powerful way to publish on the Microsoft
Network. Adobe will be integrating its industry-leading authoring tools,
including Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, into Microsofts
interactive application publishing platform, code-named "Blackbird." Adobe
and Microsoft also will work together to integrate Adobe Acrobat software
into "Blackbird," giving users of the Microsoft Network the ability to
seamlessly view Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents created by
Acrobat products.

"We are committed to providing powerful authoring tools for the development
of compelling, graphically based documents for distribution on-line or in
print," said John Warnock, chairman and CEO of Adobe. "This alliance gives
Microsoft Network publishers the opportunity to use our industry-leading
tools to create their own unique brand of visually-rich documents, as well
as take advantage of the Portable Document Format (PDF), a popular on-line
delivery mechanism."

"Were excited that Adobe is bringing its popular multimedia tools and
publishing products to Blackbird designers," said Pat Farrel, director of
the MSN Tools and Applications group at Microsoft. The "Blackbird" system
allows content providers to offer rich interactive multimedia applications
and services on the Microsoft Network, providing users with a compelling
and exciting on-line experience. Interactive applications developed with
"Blackbird" are optimized for low-bandwidth delivery of rich multimedia
content. "Blackbird" is expected to be available in January 1996.

Adobe intends to support "Blackbird" through Microsoft OLE 2.0 in future
versions of its key applications. This support will provide users with
access to professional applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
Illustrator for content creation in the Blackbird environment. In
addition, users of Adobe products will be able to leverage their existing
investment by outputting to "Blackbird."

Adobe Acrobat software allows publishers to create visually rich,
cross-platform electronic documents using virtually any authoring tool
available today. With Acrobat, users can publish once in Adobe PDF - an
open, searchable file format that preserves document fidelity across all
major computer platforms and printers. This file can then be distributed
electronically across the Internet and on-line services, in CD-ROM format,
over corporate networks or directly to an output device.
