Apple Extends Leadership in Home Market and Multimedia with New
Aggressively Priced Macintosh Performa Systems

Powerful New Home and Home Office Multimedia Computers Feature Internet
Access, MPEG, and Quad-Speed CD-ROM Drives

CUPERTINO, California,--July 14, 1995--Home computing and multimedia
leader, Apple Computer, Inc., today introduced two new series of PowerPC
processor-based, Internet and MPEG-ready Macintosh Performa computers
designed for first-time and home office buyers--the Macintosh Performa
5200CD series and the Macintosh Performa 6200CD series. Apple today also
introduced the Macintosh Performa 631CD, Macintosh Performa 640CD DOS
Compatible, Macintosh Performa 6116CD and the MPEG (Motion Picture Experts
Group) Media System.

Macintosh Performa computers are packaged as a complete solution in one
box, including ready-to-run hardware optimized for multimedia applications
(CPU, monitor, keyboard, modem, CD-ROM drive and documentation), Macintosh
System 7.5, preinstalled productivity applications, and a variety of
education and entertainment software and CD-ROM titles. All Macintosh
Performa systems offer exceptional ease of use, outstanding
price/performance, and full multimedia capabilities, allowing customers to
literally plug and play.

"Customers told us they wanted advanced, powerful, easy-to-use multimedia
capabilities, value and future expansion capability," said Brodie Keast,
vice president of Product Marketing for Apple Computer. "These products
provide exceptional value and performance and the very best multimedia
solution on the market-from the world's leading multimedia vendor, Apple
Computer."

Internet Ready

In the Apple tradition of providing solutions that are powerful, yet still
easy to use, Apple is making it easy for Macintosh Performa customers to
get on to the Internet through the use of eWorld, Apple's online service.
eWorld, which is bundled with all Performa systems worldwide, today
announced that it now offers simple, one-click access to the Internet's
World Wide Web. Additionally, eWorld today unveiled a new information
destination on the World Wide Web especially for home computer users and
families.

With "Web City" eWorld has selected relevant information from existing web
sites ranging from home learning activities for the whole family to online
shopping and news (Editor's note: See eWorld press release 6/17/95). These
new offerings build upon eWorld solutions already meaningful to Performa
customers, including direct online support from Apple, comprehensive
computer usage information, and carefully selected content for families.

In addition to being Internet-ready, both the Macintosh Performa 5200CD and
6200CD series feature an internal 14.4 modem which provides a full duplex
speakerphone, answering machine, and fax send and receive capability. The
speakerphone provides automatic dialing from the built-in address book or
from the keyboard, and advanced features such as the direct translation of
alphabetical strings into phone numbers. The digital answering machine can
store virtually unlimited messages and play them in any any order.

Ease-of-Use, New Multimedia Capabilities and Solutions The Macintosh
Performa 5200CD series and the Macintosh Performa 6200CD series broaden
Apple's consumer product line and bring new options and capabilities to
the market. In addition to new features, plug and play multimedia
capabilities are standard options with every Macintosh computer, meaning
that all the components necessary for multimedia computing are available
for the systems. The new Performa systems build on the success of the
Macintosh Performa 630 series by giving customers access to the latest in
easy-to-use multimedia technology, allowing them to create, use and
combine graphics, text, music, video and images. Additionally, the
multimedia solutions introduced summer of 1994-- the Apple Video System,
Video/TV System and Presentation System--all work with the Macintosh
Performa 5200CD and 6200CD series. These solutions allow customers to
capture video with a single button, watch TV in a window, and display
presentations to a large screen TV.

MPEG Media System

The Apple MPEG Media System, a user installable card, provides full motion,
full screen video at an affordable price. This card will work with the
Macintosh Performa 630, 5200 and 6200 systems. The Macintosh Performa
6230CD comes with the MPEG Media System preinstalled.

From its dual buffer architecture to its 16-bit CD quality sound, the MPEG
Media System was designed with interactivity and many new and exciting
MPEG CD-ROM titles in mind. With Ocean Life: Hawaiian Islands, for
example, the user is able to explore the marine life of the Hawaiian
Islands, in full, vibrant color. The Apple MPEG Media System including the
MPEG card and several MPEG CD-ROM titles, is expected to have an Apple
Price of $299.00. (Please see fact sheet for complete specifications and
