AT&T and Vision Software unveil Palladium 9-1-1 system

July 27, 1995 -- LISLE, Ill. -- AT&T Network Systems and Vision Software
have unveiled a new integrated computer platform that brings increased
speed, accuracy and network-based technology to emergency response
communications centers.

The new computer platform, called the Palladium 9-1-1 system, is the first
public safety answering point (PSAP) platform to combine Enhanced 9-1-1
(E9-1-1) call response, computer-aided dispatching (CAD), Integrated
Services Digital Network (ISDN) technology, records management and other
functions into a fully integrated client/server network accessed by a
single desktop computer.

The Palladium 9-1-1 system enables telecommunicators to answer 9-1-1 calls,
send and trace emergency vehicles, view and print images, and create
pre-fire plans, sketches and maps on a single PC. Information displayed
may be transmitted to a remote location by fax or printer with a click of
a mouse or the touch of a single key.

Available for both analog and ISDN phone systems, the Palladium system
integrates an emergency response agency's E9-1-1 telecommunications
controller equipment and software with its computer-aided dispatching
system. Telephone operations, records management, NCIC look-ups and other
interagency connections are also combined into this integrated network
solution.

"The revolutionary part of the Palladium system is two-fold," explained
Kathy Huml, technical manager of AT&T Public Safety Systems, part of the
AT&T Network Systems Group. "First, all of these capabilities are on one
platform, accessed through a single desktop PC with a graphical user
interface. Second, the Palladium system makes these functions more
attainable for small and medium sized PSAPs by reducing costs for local
and county agencies."

The typical 9-1-1 center today has several distinct systems controlling
E9-1-1 functions, CAD operations, telephone switching and recorders. The
end user is often forced to cobble these dissimilar components together
and hope they will work as a reliable system.

With the Palladium system, communities can get all of their public safety
hardware and software in a single, integrated solution from a single
source. They'll gain quicker 9-1-1 response, greater reliability, improved
networking efficiency, and easier changes and upgrades as a result of the
Palladium system's modular design.

Among the Palladium system's software modules are programs that address
many of the day-to-day needs of public safety offices, including mapping,
NIBRS complaint records management, fire records management and jail
records management.

The Palladium 9-1-1 system is based on AT&T hardware. With its
client/server architecture, the platform supports open systems, Windows NT
graphic user interface, Pentium processors, WAN capabilities, multimedia
capabilites, mobile computers, relational databases, and ISDN digital
technology.

The basic Palladium 9-1-1 system is scheduled for availability in
September. The additional software modules will be rolled out through
February of next year.
