BANYAN SYSTEMS SHIPS UNIVERSAL STREETTALK

Sybase, Inc., VMARK Software, Microsystems Software, Inc., and Campbell
Services, Inc. Rally Behind Banyan's Directory Initiative

This will be an achievement as significant to software as the electric
starter was to automobiles. - Software developer on the successful
deployment of Universal StreetTalk from Banyan Systems.

Westboro, MA, June 26, 1995 -- Banyan Systems Incorporated, (NASDAQ:BNYN),
today announced the early access release of Universal StreetTalk. In
addition to the product delivery, the Company announced that independent
software developers Sybase, Inc., VMARK Software, Inc., Microsystems
Software Incorporated, and Campbell Services, Inc. have added their
company names to the growing list of developers supporting Universal
StreetTalk since its initial announcement in April of this year.
Previously announced companies to support the Universal StreetTalk
initiative include SAP, Oracle Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., and
Collabra Software, Inc. The Universal StreetTalk initiative provides
software and hardware developers Banyan's StreetTalk directory for
inclusion in their products free of charge.

By including Banyan's proven StreetTalk technology within their products,
application developers will be able to deliver location independence,
advanced distributed management capabilities, enterprise scalability, ease
of resource location and use, and an effective collaboration
infrastructure to their customers. Future versions of Universal StreetTalk
will also support other networking environments such as Novell's NetWare
Directory Services (NDS) and Microsoft Corporation's Domain Naming
Services (DNS) eliminating the need for developers to create NOS-specific
versions of their products.

Banyan is greatly encouraged by the overwhelming ISV support given to the
Universal StreetTalk initiative, said John M. Paul, senior vice president
of product and business development with Banyan. Universal StreetTalk
maintains the highest priority for Banyan in 1995 both in hitting delivery
dates and expanding strategic partnerships.

Universal StreetTalk, a complete, ready to be deployed directory service,
will ease the burden placed on developers striving to build truly
effective client-server applications.

Through the use of Universal StreetTalk, developers will be able to simply
and cost effectively incorporate a rich infrastructure including directory
services, security services, browsing and management services, into their
applications. This speeds the developers time-to-market and improves the
robustness of their products, as well as enabling them to improve overall
scalability, manageability and usability.

Sybase, Inc.

Directory services are an essential technology for extending client/server
applications in enterprise environments because of the potentially large
number of servers that must be accessed by numerous applications, said
Robert McCord, Sybase director of enterprise marketing. Sybase is building
directory service support for Banyan's Universal StreetTalk into its next
release of the SYBASE Open Client's application programming interface, a
member of Sybases family of industry-leading interoperability software.
The Universal StreetTalk initiative helps to integrate directory and
client/server technology, making application development easier and less
costly in the enterprise environment.

The Universal StreetTalk initiative will help create a fusion between
directory and client-server technology which will ultimately benefit
customers as they move from departmental to enterprise-wide applications,
added Paul.

VMARK Software

VMARK Software, Inc. is committed to delivering solutions to the
client/server marketplace. Part of its solutions will be the kind of
effective Directory Services provided by Universal StreetTalk which the
company views as an essential complement to VMARK's HyperSTAR object
messaging middleware. HyperSTAR is an integrated, vendor-independent
solution for providing database connectivity to organizations that require
access to multiple databases across the enterprise. HyperSTAR servers
provide access to relational and non-relational databases including
Oracle, Sybase, DB/2, Ingres, uniVerse and Informix on UNIX, NT and
proprietary operating systems.

Universal StreetTalk lets VMARK focus on its strengths while providing
directory-based solutions which are high performing and flexible while
being easily managed and secure, explained Jim Foy, vice president of
strategic programs at VMARK.

The combination of VMARK and Banyan is a potent, solutions-based tool which
targets a variety of large scale organizations currently implementing
client-server systems, said Mike Wixon, director of business development
at Banyan. VMARK is the clear leader in database middleware technolgy.
VMARK's HyperStar can provide the connectivity synergistic to Banyan's
vision of Click to Information.

This is the type of synergy you are seeing in the industry today, said
Foy.

In working with Banyan, we can take two products - which are the best in
their respective areas - and integrate them to provide an even more
powerful solution.

Analysts Support Universal StreetTalk

Universal StreetTalk has also been endorsed by leading industry groups
including the Network Applications Consortium (NAC) and analysts like
Clear Thinking Research Incorporated and [1m[7][0mThe Burton Group. Banyan
has attracted such an impressive list of ISVs because its Universal
StreetTalk technology is proven, available, and usable. No other directory
has garnered such immediate and wholehearted support, said Glenn Gabriel
Ben-Yosef, president of Clear Thinking Research Incorporated.

In previously announced statements, analyst Jamie Lewis, president of The
Burton Group, stated Developers of networked applications have had little
choice but to build their own directories into their applications, which
makes applications expensive to build and hard to manage. Banyan's
Universal StreetTalk initiative is aimed directly at solving that problem
by supplying both the directory and the APIs free of charge to
developers...Banyan's initiative should facilitate the development of
client-server applications on PC networks.

Microsystems Software Inc.

Microsystems Software, the creators of CaLANdar, an award winning
enterprise group calendaring and scheduling solution for DOS, Windows and
MAC client platforms, provides CaLANdar integration for a multitude of
e-mail and directory products - such as MAPI, StreetTalk/STDA, Intelligent
Messaging, Notes, cc:Mail, VIM, MHS and X.400 systems. Microsystems
Software Incorporated, reflecting the needs of end users and
administrators, emphasizes tight integration across these e-mail and
directory structures.

Nigel R. Spicer, president of Microsystems Software, lauds Banyan's efforts
to create a single directory. Banyan, by providing a technology such as
Universal StreetTalk, can significantly ease our development efforts and
permit us to focus on our core competencies of scheduling and application
management, while leaving many of the directory, e-mail naming and
management issues to Universal StreetTalk.

Campbell Services, Inc.

The developers of OnTime Enterprise, a leading enterprise-wide, real-time
group scheduling package, has also joined the ranks of Universal
StreetTalk supporters. The company has been using StreetTalk in their
products since 1992.

Campbell Services has considerable experience in supporting client-server
based enterprise-wide applications in installations with ten thousand
users dispersed across the globe. The scalability, location independence,
searchability and functionality of StreetTalk as an enterprise directory
supporting an enterprise application has been proven in this environment
and many more over the last 10 years.

We are very pleased with StreetTalk technology in the VINES/ENS
environments and welcome Banyan's initiative to make it available in other
environments, said Anik Ganguly, executive vice president of Campbell
Services, Inc. If Universal StreetTalk is developed and deployed rapidly
enough, it can become the enterprise directory solution in a heterogeneous
enterprise network. Ganguly explained further, This will be an achievement
as significant to software as the electric starter was to automobiles.
