BAY NETWORKS AND NOVELL LABS COLLABORATE TO BUILD NOVELL CORPORATE TEST
WAN

-- Novell Labs and Novell Certification Alliance Companies Certify All Yes,
Novell Tested and Approved Products --

BILLERICA, Mass., July 11, 1995 -- Novell Inc. and Bay Networks, Inc. today
announced that they have signed a formal agreement to integrate Bay
Networks' high-performance, multiprotocol routers to serve as a key
component in the Novell Corporate Test WAN. Bay Networks is a key backbone
router manufacturer, delivering routing technology to the Novell Corporate
Test WAN, an enterprise-wide test environment for multivendor
interoperability and network integration testing.

The Novell Corporate Test WAN deploys a range of internetworking products
to offer a real-world test WAN environment, which tests product
interoperability and integration development. Bay Networks has installed
its Backbone Link Node (BLN) routers in the testing environment,
supporting a wide variety of industry-standard protocols operating on
Ethernet, Token Ring, and FDDI networks, and in the future, ATM. The BLN
routers provide connectivity between Novell's central lab in Provo, Utah
and the company's remote test labs located in Orem, Utah, and San Jose,
Walnut Creek and Sunnyvale, California.

As a vendor participant, Bay Networks is expanding the testing of its
router products for interoperability with Novell routers and servers in
the live test system through a dedicated wide area connection.

"The deployment of Bay Networks' routers in the Novell Test WAN provides
the test system with continuous routing capabilities through such features
as hardware and software redundancy, fault management, distributed system
software, on-line hot swap, and dynamic reconfiguration," stated John
Igoe, vice president of systems testing and quality at Bay Networks. "By
participating in joint product interoperability testing and integration in
a true LAN/WAN environment, Novell and Bay Networks ensure multivendor
interoperability and network compatibility across the companies' router
products."

According to David Owen, vice president, Novell Labs, "The goal of the
Novell Test WAN is to improve the overall quality of Novell products by
enabling vendors to test their integrated products against real-world
customer requirements. Since the Novell Test WAN aids vendors in
identifying and solving interoperability issues prior to deployment,
network uptime and accessibility are critical. The addition of Bay
Networks as a key contributor to the Novell Test WAN ensures smooth
integration and complete interoperability for users building
enterprise-wide networks based on products from both companies."

This agreement also fosters collaboration in areas such as evolving
interoperability testing, support and common management, offering mutual
customers interoperable, transparent networking solutions. As a certified
Yes, Tested and Approved program member, Bay Networks' routing products
fully support Novell's IPX protocol suite.

Real-Time Testing Environment

Novell established its Corporate Test WAN to create stable, enterprise-wide
internetworking solutions that integrate the technologies employed in core
NetWare products, Novell division products, and products from key
networking product vendors. The Novell Corporate Test WAN offers host
connectivity, wide area links, and access to a wide range Novell products,
permitting test participants to conduct product interoperability testing
and development.

By implementing standards-based internetworking products in the Novell
Corporate Test WAN, Bay Networks and Novell can identify and resolve
interoperability issues early in their product development cycles. "The
cooperation of Novell and Bay Networks in the Test WAN enables the two
companies to test specific technologies and solutions prior to
implementation, satisfying end-users' needs for highly interoperable
internetworking products," noted Owen.

Novell divisions and selected vendors, such as Bay Networks, will provide
the expertise necessary to maintain and modify their respective
technologies within the test environment. Novell and Bay Networks have
allocated resources to support the ongoing product interoperability and
integration testing. Additionally, the two companies will define a process
to jointly develop integrated testing.
