COMPUTER ASSOCIATES RELEASES CA-VISUAL OBJECTS SDK

ISLANDIA, N.Y., July 5, 1995--Computer Associates today announced that a
CA-Visual Objects Software Development Kit (SDK) is available for
developers to create integrated add-on tools --such as source editors,
business graphics and multimedia editors-- to enhance the functionality of
the CA-Visual Objects development environment and provide access to new
database formats. The SDK package, available on CD-ROM, includes CA-Visual
Objects coded for class interfaces, comprehensive on-line documentation
and sample programs.

"CA has always been committed to making CA-Visual Objects a very open
environment, said Marc Sokol, CA vice president of product strategy.
"Releasing the SDK fulfills that promise and places great power into the
hands of our developers and third-party organizations.

The SDK includes Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for:

Integrated Development Environment (IDE) Subsystem--provides the functions
required to interface with the CA-Visual Objects IDE. Using these
functions allow developers to create additional or replacement tools such
as source code editors, business graphics libraries, and multimedia
tools.

RDD (Replaceable Database Drivers) Subsystem--allows developers to create
database drivers for different file formats using a common language
interface. Using the resulting RDDs, CA-Visual Objects programmers can
then construct applications that access those file formats.

Repository Subsystem--allows developers to store data and code used or
generated by their add-on and replacement tools in the CA-Visual Objects
repository. Placing this information into the repository makes it
available for application and module import and export, and ensures that
its dependencies are managed along with other program components.

Item Subsystem--provides the interface for C, C++ and Assembly programmers
for the CA-Visual Objects polymorphic variables.

Error Subsystem--enables developers to implement sophisticated,
customizable error handlers capabilities to support enhancements to the
CA-Visual Objects language or for specific third-party products.

Client reaction is positive:

"The CA-Visual Objects SDK is a great tool for third-party developers to
integrate their applications directly into the CA-Visual Objects
environment," said Rod Da Silva, principal of Software Perspectives,
Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. "Also, since it comes with complete
CA-Visual Objects source code to the class libraries that ship with the
product, it will be a benefit to application programmers as well. Having
access to the source code for important classes like DBServer and
DataWindow along with all the other GUI, SQL and DBF classes allows
developers to either modify or extend their behavior to suit specific
situations."

"Anyone who wants to be a serious developer must have the CA-Visual Objects
SDK,' said Ross Chappell, president of NESS BusinessTechnology Inc.,
Toronto, Canada. "One of the best features is the PRG file that allows for
a listing of classes and source code. CA-Visual Objects SDK is a valuable
tool."

The CA-Visual Objects SDK is available now at a suggested retail price of
$195.
