CABLETRON OPENS SEVENTH ASIA-PACIFIC OFFICE

Rochester, NH -- July 18, 1995 -- Cabletron Systems (NYSE: CS) announced
today the opening of its seventh Asia-Pacific office providing technical
and sales support to the computer networking leader's growing customer
base and reseller partners in Asia. The new office is a joint effort
between Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia and Cabletron.
It is located in the Pusat Innovasi (Innovation Center) on the campus of
USM, one of Southeast Asia's leading science and information technology
universities.

Cabletron also installed a high technology networking lab in its Penang
office equipped with Cabletron intelligent hubs and SPECTRUM, Cabletron's
multivendor enterprise network management platform. The networking lab
will function as both a teaching and research center for the School of
Computer Sciences Network Research Group at USM as well as a development
and demonstration office for Cabletron customers, reseller partners and
students.

"Working closely with Cabletron gives us first-hand knowledge of its
technology and products. It is this type of information that will position
Malaysia to meet its vision 2020 objectives," said Dr. Zaharin Yusoff,
dean, Computer Science, USM. "In addition, the hands-on educational
experience provided by the networking lab in Pusat Innovasi at USM is
unparalleled anywhere else in Asia.This experience will prepare Malaysian
students to become leaders in the computer networking industry."

The Penang office opening is part of Cabletron's Asia-Pacific technical and
sales support expansion strategy. Cabletron plans to open additional sales
and support offices in key markets throughout the region.
