COMPAQ UNVEILS THE LEAD SYSTEMS PARTNER FOR WINDOWS 95 LOGO DESIGN -- FOR
PCS PRE-INSTALLED WITH WINDOWS 95

HOUSTON June 28, 1995 -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ) today
unveiled a logo design communicating the company's position as the
Microsoft Lead Systems Partner for Windows 95, and Compaq's commitment to
deliver PCs designed for Windows 95.

The Compaq logo is a solid red rectangular box with the words The Lead
Systems Partner for Windows 95 under the Compaq logo, reversed out in
white. The logo appears next to the Microsoft Designed for Windows 95
logo. Compaq revealed the logo at the PC EXPO trade show in New York City
last week. The logo will appear on Compaq product packaging, promotional
materials, advertisements and other collateral in the coming months.

As outlined in a joint Compaq and Microsoft press release in February,
Compaq is the Lead Systems Partner for Windows 95 because of the
leadership role Compaq has played over the last two years. This includes
the development of new PC industry standards such as Plug and Play, the
contributions Compaq has made to the Windows 95 program, the company's
strong corporate commitment to Windows 95 in its products and marketing
programs, and the extensive internal transition to Windows 95 currently in
process at Compaq.

The Lead Systems Partner for Windows 95 message will help our customers
understand that Compaq's close working relationship with Microsoft will
lead to a positive total ownership experience, including excellent product
features, knowledgeable customer support and value-added differentiation,
said Lorie Strong, vice president, Marketing Services for Compaq Computer
Corporation.

As the Lead Systems Partner for Windows 95, Compaq is working closely with
Microsoft on key technologies supported in Windows 95 such as Plug and
Play, said Brad Chase, general manager in the Microsoft Personal Systems
Division.

We are excited about Compaq's commitment to Windows 95, including
displaying the 'Designed for Windows 95' logo in Compaq communications.

Compaq led the effort to define Plug and Play technology and drive it as an
industry standard. In fact, Compaq has already shipped millions of PCs
with the Plug and Play BIOS that are designed to be fully compatible with
Windows 95.

Strong added, We're proud to display the 'Designed for Windows 95' logo,
which signals to our customers that we are working diligently to ensure
they experience a smooth transition to this new operating system while
discovering the whole range of benefits we have designed into our products
to make Windows 95 even more enjoyable and useful.

Product Features That Take Advantage of Windows 95

Several Compaq products have been designed with features that take
advantage of Windows 95. The Compaq LTE Elite notebook computer, for
example, extends Plug and Play benefits by offering hot and warm docking
on the LTE Elite desktop expansion base, the SmartStation. With hot
docking, a powered-on LTE Elite can be inserted into the SmartStation and
the system will dynamically re-configure itself to use the external
monitor, keyboard, mouse and other local peripheral devices.

Compaq also recently introduced Intelligent Manageability to its newly
designed Deskpro and ProLinea lines of commercial desktops. Intelligent
Manageability gains significant new value with the arrival of Windows 95,
in that customers will be able to realize remote fault management and
notification of impending disk failures from across the network.

Compaq and Microsoft Make Final Preparations

As the date for the introduction of Windows 95 draws near, Compaq and
Microsoft continue to work together to prepare for its arrival. The
companies have already engaged in a number of joint marketing activities
to promote each others' products and contributions, such as a Plug and
Play press tour, the current Windows 95 World Tour, a Mobile Analyst Tour
and an Information Systems Manager's Tour. Most recently, Compaq
participated in the Windows in Action Expo event, part of the Microsoft
Windows 95 Reviewer's Workshop in Bellevue, Washington for computer
industry and business press writing about Windows 95.
