IBM/Lotus Product Moves Viewed as Positive

ARMONK, N.Y., July 20, 1995. . .The product strategy outlined by IBM and
Lotus Development Corp. today was positively received by customers and
business partners.

The strategic product decisions announced include adopting Lotus Notes* as
IBM's workgroup client and mail, messaging and groupware server platform;
adopting Lotus SmartSuite* as IBM's desktop suite; and adopting Lotus* as
IBM's brand name for PC application and workgroup software.

Commenting on today's announcements:

"IBM's reaffirming its commitment to Lotus Notes as its strategic groupware
product is very encouraging to us. As a long time IBM customer and a large
Lotus Notes user, we see many exciting benefits from this IBM/Lotus
combination, and we're impressed by how quickly they're moving forward,"
said Craig Goldman, Chief Information Officer at Chase Manhattan Bank.

"The speed and decisiveness of IBM and Lotus is remarkable. IBM's clear and
early commitment to Lotus products and the Lotus brand will make a
substantial contribution to the momentum of both Lotus Notes and
SmartSuite. Lotus' innovative approach to Team Computing and IBM's focus
on robustness and scalability is an unbeatable combination," said Randy
Eckel, President, InfoImage, Inc.

"We are excited about how quickly IBM and Lotus are getting down to
business. Before the acquisition, the potential market for Notes-based
business solutions was huge. IBM's clear commitment to Lotus Notes as an
open platform and to the Lotus Business Partner community will further
establish Notes as a standard and drive the Notes market through the roof.
I think this is the best thing that's ever happened to Notes," said Mark
Johnson, President, MFJ International.

"Notes is a great product and we are a big Notes user. We are delighted
that IBM recognizes its potential and encouraged by the speed at which IBM
and Lotus have moved," said Gerry Higgins, managing director of Data
Center, Network and Distributed Technologies, NYNEX.

"Notes combined with Sun Solaris and Sun SPARCstation have offered
organizations a powerful platform for open, standards- based client/server
workgroup applications. Today's announcement by IBM and Lotus, which
reaffirms their commitment to open, interoperable computing, ensures that
our solutions will continue to play an important role in the continued
expansion of the fast- growing workgroup and communications business that
is transforming the way organizations work together," said Scott McNealy,
Chairman and CEO, Sun Microsystems Inc.

"We are very pleased that Lotus and IBM have reiterated their commitment to
maintaining Notes as an open environment. The enterprise-wide business
solutions we build for our customers require this cross-platform
flexibility. We look forward to a strong working partnership with the
combined IBM/Lotus team," said Todd Hunter, President, Workflow Designs
Inc.
