SCM GAINS 47.4% OF THE U.S. PC CARD READER/WRITER MARKET

BIS-Strategic Preliminary 1994 PC Card Market Share Study

Los Gatos, CA, May 3, 1995 -- SCM Microsystems released today the
preliminary results of the BIS-Strategic Decisions' market share study of
the 1994 PC Card market. BIS-Strategic concluded that SCM Microsystems
topped the list of vendors for PC Card reader/writers with a majority of
47.4% of the market. SCM is winning market share with their popular
SwapBox line of PC Card reader/writers, including the first combination
3.5" floppy disk and PC Card drive, the SwapBox Combo Drive. The market
research also showed Databook with a 33.1% share of the market; followed
by Cardwell at 4.6%; Maxtor at 3.4%; and others at 6.9%.

"SCM's success can be contributed to providing users with the most
competitively priced Intel compatible PC Card reader available," said Jack
Peterson, Director of Sales and Marketing for SCM Microsystems.

"Studies from Frost and Sullivan have predicted that in 1995 25% of all
computer platforms (desktop and mobile) will ship with PC Card support,
driven by key applications such as data transfer and electronic security.
SCM believes that this forecast will significantly increase, specifically
in the desktop arena now that system manufactures have heard of the
announcement of our new integrated combination drives," stated Robert
Schneider, President and CEO of SCM Microsystems. "These new products will
even appeal to those end-users who wish to upgrade their current desktop
PCs to take advantage of the new PCMCIA technologies being offered."
