SYMANTEC AND MOMENTUM SOFTWARE FORM STRATEGIC TECHNOLOGY RELATIONSHIP

Symantec Enterprise Developer 2.0 works with Momentum's XIPC messaging
software

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- July 24, 1995 -- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC)
and

Momentum Software, Corp. today announced that Momentum's XIPC messaging
software has been certified to work with Enterprise Developer, Symantec's
next generation client/server application development tool. The Symantec
and Momentum products, working together, will provide a best-of-breed
solution for sophisticated and heterogeneous messaging services in
client/server application development. Because the XIPC components can
either reside on the same system as the Enterprise Developer application
or across a network on any of over 30 operating systems supported by XIPC,
highly scalable and portable 3-tier or multi-tier applications can be
developed.

"In the arena of messaging services, we're convinced that Momentum is the
best-of-breed technology offering for our customer base," said John
MacWillie, Symantec's director of enterprise business development.
"Messaging is a crucial technology for building next generation, fully-
partitioned enterprise-class applications."

"The powerful, mission-critical application development capabilities of
Enterprise Developer are a perfect match for XIPC," said Larry Duckworth,
president and CEO of Momentum Software. "Momentum is pleased to have been
selected as the message oriented middleware (MOM) by Symantec. Momentum
plans to work closely with Symantec to meet the needs of Enterprise
Developer application developers, as the move towards building three-tier
and multi-tier applications continues to accelerate."

Using XIPC and Enterprise Developer, client-server applications can invoke
messaging services from Symantec's powerful object-oriented ScaleScript
language. ScaleScript is a high-level C++ based programming language that
is fully extendible and can utilize all of the powerful features of XIPC.
With this adoption, developers of client-server applications that require
sophisticated and heterogeneous messaging services, can use Momentum XIPC
software.

Momentum's XIPC product allows Enterprise Developer applications to
communicate on a process-to-process level with application components
built in C, C++, or other tools. These application components may reside
on the same system as the Enterprise Developer application, or across the
network on any of the over 30 operating systems supported by XIPC,
allowing highly scalable and portable 3-tier or multi-tier applications to
be developed.

XIPC provides the full complement of inter-process communication (IPC)
mechanisms normally provided by sophisticated multi-tasking operating
systems, including message queues, shared memory, and semaphores (for
process signaling). The combination of Enterprise Developers sophisticated
data modeling and the SCALE architecture's access capabilities coupled
with XIPCs powerful inter-process communication facilities, allows truly
scalable multi-tier applications to be developed and successfully
deployed.
