WATCOM ANNOUNCES WATCOM FORTRAN 77 VERSION 10.5

New Version Includes Multi-Platform Integrated Development Environment and
Tools, Enhanced Performance and Windows 95 Support

Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, July 25, 1995 -- Powersoft, Watcom Products
Division, today announced Watcom FORTRAN 77 version 10.5, a new release of
its high-performance, multi-platform FORTRAN 77 development system.
Version 10.5 delivers improved productivity with a graphical Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) designed for the development of both
character-mode and Graphical User Interface (GUI) applications on a wide
variety of platforms. Support for the pre-release version of Windows 95
has been added to the package.

With Watcom FORTRAN 77, developers can exploit the performance of 486 and
Pentium machines and the power of Windows NT, Windows 95 and OS/2 in their
applications.

Version 10.5 increases performance with improved optimization technology,
such as recursion elimination and floating point scheduling. Watcom
FORTRAN 77's new, graphical IDE meets the needs of professional developers
with a comprehensive suite of multi-platform development tools. This
release also features an advanced GUI debugger, text editor and profiler.

Watcom FORTRAN 77 addresses important requirements expressed by engineers,
scientists and professional developers who are migrating existing
mainframe code to today's graphically-oriented PCs, said Ian McPhee,
president of Powersoft's Watcom Products Division. This release
underscores our commitment to provide customers with the technology and
features necessary to develop and maintain high-performance applications.

32-BIT POWER EASES PORTING FROM MAINFRAME ENVIRONMENTS

Watcom FORTRAN 77 delivers the advantages of 32-bit performance. Powerful
32-bit instruction processing delivers a significant speed advantage:
typically a minimum 2x processing speedup over 16-bit environments. On
32-bit systems, Watcom FORTRAN 77 exploits the 32-bit flat memory model to
allow applications to address up to 4 gigabytes of memory. Together, the
32-bit power of Watcom FORTRAN 77 and Intel's x86 32-bit processors
provide a desktop platform that is capable of handling many mainframe
FORTRAN applications.

To ease porting of existing code from other platforms, Watcom FORTRAN 77
has been enhanced with important FORTRAN 90, VAX, Microsoft and IBM VS
extensions. Furthermore, Watcom FORTRAN 77 is run-time compatible with
Watcom C/C++ 10.5, allowing an application to exploit the computational
power of FORTRAN and the flexibility of C and C++. Both compilers share a
similar development environment, facilitating the development of
mixed-language applications from any of the supported host platforms.

The interoperability of Watcom FORTRAN 77 and C/C++ is critical to our
development efforts, said Frank Testa of FJT Consulting. Watcom C/C++
10.5's Visual Programmer facilitates a familiar Windows interface, and
Watcom FORTRAN 77 helps us easily recompile our computational-intensive
legacy FORTRAN code.

Watcom FORTRAN 77 version 10.5's cross-platform capabilities enable the
development of programs for a wide variety of environments from any of
several supported host systems. Thus, developers can standardize on a
single host environment and toolset for application development across a
wide range of target systems. Version 10.5's multi-platform target support
includes Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.x, Win32s, OS/2 Warp, extended
DOS, 16-bit DOS, OS/2 1.x and Novell NLMs. Watcom FORTRAN 77 provides a
comprehensive development environment with the tools, Software Development
Kits (SDKs) and libraries needed to create powerful 16- and 32-bit
applications for popular PC platforms.

Using Watcom FORTRAN 77 version 10.5, developers can create applications
for the pre-release version of Windows 95. All registered Watcom FORTRAN
77 10.5 customers will be eligible to receive a free Watcom FORTRAN 77
version upgrade, featuring updated Windows 95 support. This version is
expected to ship subsequent to the retail availability of Windows 95.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Watcom FORTRAN 77 version 10.5 is currently scheduled to ship within 30
days at a current suggested retail price (SRP) of $499.* Upgrades from
previous versions of Watcom FORTRAN 77 are available directly from Watcom
for $199. Watcom FORTRAN 77 customers are eligible to purchase Watcom
C/C++ version 10.5 for $199.
