Bell, Gateway 2000, and Digital Equipment Corporation

AOL Pre-installed on Personal Computers for Consumers

Vienna, VA -- September 27, 1995 -- America Online, Inc. announced today
that three leading manufacturers of personal computers -- Packard Bell,
Gateway 2000 and Digital Equipment Corporation -- will now preinstall
America Online on their personal computers targeted at the consumer
market. These new companies join over 20 manufacturers that already
preinstall America Online on their personal computers for consumers.

"Distribution plays a key role in gaining new subscribers for this new
medium and by teaming with leading computer manufacturers we are able to
offer buyers of new personal computers a simple way to sign on to AOL,"
said Steve Case, President and CEO of America Online. "We believe AOL's
easy to use interface, affordable pricing, access to the Internet, and
engaging content will continue to attract new subscribers to our growing
community of more than 3.5 million members."

By preinstalling America Online on these computers, manufacturers are
providing their customers with quick and easy access to AOL and the
Internet. Consumers will see an America Online icon and can simply click
on the icon and register for the service.

America Online is now preinstalled on the following leading computer
manufacturers of personal computers: AST, AT&T, Acer, Austin Direct,
Canon, Compaq, Compudyne, Digital Equipment Corporation, Dell, Epson,
Gateway 2000, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Insight Direct, Leading Edge, Micron,
Packard Bell, Pionex, Power Computer, Quantex, NEC, Sharp, and Twinhead.

In addition, many of these manufacturers -- Acer, Compaq, Digital Equipment
Corporation, Dell, Gateway 2000, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Leading Edge and
NEC -- have interactive areas on America Online where they provide news,
product information, software libraries, customer support, and access to
company specific web sites.
