American Power Conversion announces PowerNet SNMP Agent support for OS/2
users

SNMP UPS management on OS/2 servers for less than 1/4 the cost of hardware
adapter approaches

APC's PowerNet is the complete enterprise power management solution

September 12, 1995 -- (West Kingston, RI) American Power Conversion today
announced PowerNet SNMP Agent support for IBM OS/2. This server based
software provides SNMP connectivity for APC Uninterruptible Power Supplies
for less than 1/4 the cost of hardware based SNMP adapter approaches.

PowerNet SNMP Agent software provides power alert traps, remote power
monitoring, and UPS command and configuration via SNMP for APC Smart- UPS
or Matrix-UPS. Power alert traps are supported with APC Smart-UPS v/s,
Back-UPS and Back-UPS Pro. In addition, PowerNet SNMP Agent provides the
benefits of automatic local fileserver shutdown and local UPS management
via the included APC PowerChute Plus software package. PowerNet SNMP Agent
provides an equivalent level of UPS SNMP monitoring as existing hardware
based adapters at 25% of the cost.

Combined with PowerNet SNMP Manager; APC's PowerNet SNMP Agent and PowerNet
SNMP Adapter (recommended for internetworking equipment) provide the
complete enterprise power management solution. This PowerNet SNMP solution
maximizes the network manager's effectiveness by presenting all UPS
information in a graphical, comprehensive interface and allows full UPS
diagnostics and control from one screen on the network management
console.

"With APC's PowerNet SNMP Agent for OS/2 administrators are given the
lowest cost solution for SNMP power management. This software is the
latest addition to a growing line of PowerNet products. APC is leading the
industry by supplying the most cost effective and powerful solutions for
enterprise power management available today." said Kevin R. Brown, APC's
PowerNet Product Manager. PowerNet Agents are also available for Windows
NT, IBM AIX, and Novell Netware.

The benefits of PowerNet SNMP Agent for OS/2 include:

REMOTE SNMP UPS ALARMS WARN ADMINISTRATORS BEFORE PROBLEMS HAPPEN: PowerNet
SNMP Agent sends APC UPS alarm information to NMS stations via SNMP in the
form of traps. This allows remote users to be advised of critical
situations affecting their network resources. The level of notification
spans from the UPS warning of imminent shutdown due to low battery down to
the UPS pro-actively advising that its battery needs replacing.

REMOTE SNMP UPS TESTING SAVES TIME AND MONEY: WAN Administrators can
remotely test the UPS or schedule automatic periodic battery tests via
PowerNet SNMP Agent. This increases reliability through automatic battery
replacement notification and eliminates the need for remote site
operators.

REMOTE CONFIGURATION OF UPS PARAMETERS: PowerNet SNMP Agent allows remote
users to set all UPS parameters via SNMP. Runtime and alarm notification
behavior are definable from an NMS console, reducing the need for on-site
configuration.

REMOTE POWER MONITORING, EASY DIAGNOSIS: With PowerNet SNMP Agent, remote
NMS users can poll the UPS for a snapshot of power conditions at the UPS's
local installation. Once remote conditions have been determined,
administrators can pro-actively "localize" the UPS via SNMP to fit the
needs of the installation.

COST EFFECTIVE SNMP CONNECTIVITY: Every server on a network requires a UPS
with shutdown software. PowerNet SNMP Agent provides the same shutdown
with the additional benefit of SNMP communications and control, at an
additional cost of only $70 per server.

UNATTENDED SYSTEM SHUTDOWN - SOFTWARE IS INCLUDED: PowerNet SNMP Agent
includes APC's PowerChute Plus software, which warns users of power
problems and then automatically shuts down the system safely before the
UPS battery is depleted.

In addition to standard MIB browser support, PowerNet SNMP Agent can work
in conjunction with APC's PowerNet SNMP Manager products. PowerNet SNMP
Manager provides a high level UPS power management GUI for HP OpenView for
Windows, HP OpenView for UNIX, IBM NetView for AIX, and Novell's
Managewise.

SNMP based UPS control and monitoring for internetworking equipment is also
available through APC's PowerNet SNMP Adapter products.

PowerNet SNMP Agent for OS/2 joins Powernet SNMP Agent for Novell Netware,
Microsoft Windows NT, and IBM AIX. Support for other Network Operating
Systems is planned in the future.

PowerNet SNMP Agent ships 09/15/95, with a US list price of $169.

American Power Conversion (NASDAQ:APCC) is the market share leader in
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and software for networks and similar
mission-critical applications. Product lines include the Back-UPS,
Smart-UPS, Matrix-UPS, Line-R power conditioners, PowerChute software,
