BINDVIEW DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION ANNOUNCES BINDVIEW FOR NETWARE DIRECTORY
SERVICES

Houston, September 5, 1995--BindView Development Corporation extends the
capabilities of BindView NCS, the award winning network management
software for NetWare 2.x/3.x LAN's, to NetWare 4.x with BindView for
NetWare Directory Services (NDS). BindView for NDS provides detailed
reporting on NetWare 4.x servers and the entire NDS tree.

BindView's Powerful Report Generator Is Now Native NDS

With the Report Generator for BindView for NDS, you have a seamlessly
integrated analysis and reporting tool for your 4.x LAN. The reporting
engine allows network administrators to browse the NDS database and all
objects visible on the NDS tree; information regarding server
configuration and server settings may also be accessed on licensed
servers. All the powerful reporting and analysis capabilities of BindView
are now available for NetWare 4.x and NetWare Directory Services. This
broad base of collected information can be reported upon using The Report
Generator for BindView NDS.

With the Report Generator, network administrators are given the option of
running BindView for NDS's pre-defined reports or creating customized
reports by using the available sorting and filtering options. All reports
generated are of presentation quality and may be printed, exported or even
sent through e-mail.

Create Baseline Reports to Help Track and Monitor Changes in Your File
Servers

Baseline reporting is also a function of the Rreport gGenerator for
BindView for NDS. With baseline reporting, any report created may be
designated and stored as a baseline against which future reports can be
compared. Running reports against a baseline gives the network
administrator a clear idea of what has changed since the last report was
run, facilitating the monitoring and maintenance of his or her network.

"The Report Generator for BindView NDS is both flexible and easy to use."
says Eric Pulaski, president of BindView Development Corporation. "While
our pre-defined reports are extensive, the user still has the flexibility
to sort and filter information to create his or her own reports if the
need arises. Reports can also be stored as baselines, giving network
administrators a running history of the status of their NetWare 4.x
LAN's."

Security Audits and File Server Documentation Is Possible with BindView for
NDS's Server Reporting

BindView for NDS's Server Information Module provides access to extensive
NetWare 4.x server configuration information. File server documentation
capabilities include, but are not limited to, NDS partition information,
volume details, server set variable information, disk space analysis, NLM
management, and accounting information. The retrieval of file server error
log information and file server configuration files including STARTUP.NCF
and AUTOEXEC.NCF. is also possible. Memory statistics, and video and bus
type is also possible with the Server Information Module.

Security audits can also be performed with BindView for NDS. Through the
Server Information Module, a complete data security analysis may be
performed. By specifying a particular directory or file, the network
administrator can access information regarding exactly which users have
rights to network resources and how those rights were inherited. This
allows network administrators to monitor and control user rights and
access to network resources.

"Every network administrator needs to know who has access to what in order
to keep the network secure and running," said Eric Pulaski. "BindView for
NDS gives the network administrator access to all the security information
needed to perform his or her policing job effectively."

BindView for NDS Provides Object Reporting

NDS object properties and information may be analyzed and reported on with
BindView for NDS Object Licenses. NDS objects include user accounts,
groups, organizational roles, aliases, template users, printer queues,
printers, , user groups, container objectss, and anything else defined as
an object in the NDS tree. NDS Oobject reporting oriented reporting allows
the sorting and filtering of user and group object information to create
reports that are customized to a network administrator's specific needs.
The network administrator can report on any properties associated with an
object on the NDS tree, including disk space in use, disk space available,
security restrictions, security equivalencies, group membership, location
in the NDS treeorganizational structure, rights that the object has, and
any other properties associated with the object.

Object licenses broaden the base of security information provided by the
server licenses. With object licenses the network administrator can expand
his or her reporting capabilities by allowing a thorough analysis of a
specific object's user or group's security equivalencies, trustee
assignments and other security information. Information regarding a user's
effective rights , including rights to any directory, file or NDS object
and how those rights were inherited is also accessible. BindView for NDS
will also locate hidden objects; invisible even to the Admin account,
hidden objects can be used as back doors into the network and can pose
security problems if not detected.

"BindView for NDS gives the network administrator a comprehensive tool kit
for administering and securing the network," said Eric Pulaski. "The more
you know about your NDS tree the more effectively you can spot present or
potential problems and solve or avoid them."
