DIGITAL PARTNERS WITH MICROSOFT TO LAUNCH MICROSOFT'S WINDOWS 95 INTERNET
HOME PAGE

DIGITAL PRIORIS PC SERVERS POWER KEY WEB SITE

MAYNARD, Mass., August 17, 1995 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced that its Prioris HX 590DP PC server has been chosen by Microsoft
as the power behind its Windows 95 home page. Building on Digital's and
Microsoft's recent alliance to meet customer demand for Microsoft
solutions in true enterprise-wide computing environments, Digital is proud
to provide the hardware and service necessary to support the largest
on-line event in Internet history. Microsoft's Windows 95 home page is
located on the World Wide Web at http://www.windows.microsoft.com. The
Windows 95 online launch event begins August 24, 1995.

This partnership will allow large volumes of Internet users easy and fast
access to the new Windows 95 home page and underscores Digital's continued
leadership in networking, enterprise computing, service, support and
systems integration. In addition to extensive Microsoft information, the
Windows 95 online "Product Pavilion" will feature a hot link to Digital's
Personal Computer Business Unit home page (scheduled to go "live" on
August 24 at http://www.pc.digital.com), as well as information on the
Digital Prioris HX 590DP system. Digital's Prioris PC servers will be
featured in an "About This Web Site" section of the Windows 95 site. In
addition, Digital and Microsoft will kick off a "Win this Web Server"
giveaway, as a prize to a selected site visitor randomly chosen from those
who fill out the online event "Guest Book" (site visitors from those
locations where such a giveaway is prohibited by law will be ineligible).

"In addition to its history of leadership in online technology, Digital
intends to lead in Internet web servers by capitalizing on its PC server
and networking capabilities," said Duane Dickhut, vice president of
Digital's PC Server Product Line. "By virtue of this leadership, Digital
has been selected by the largest software company in the world as a key
partner to assist in the launch of Windows 95 through one of the greatest
on-line events in Internet history."

Microsoft will celebrate the retail availability of Windows 95 on August 24
with a limited-attendance customer event at the company's Redmond, Wash.,
campus and through the online launch event. Given the key role Internet
access will play, not only in the Windows 95 launch but also in providing
users with on going information and support beyond August 24, server power
and reliability is critical. Digital is supplying 10 servers to Microsoft
to support the site, with the servers located in cities around the world
to balance network traffic for different geographies. Other software and
hardware companies also will participate at the Redmond launch event,
demonstrating new products that take advantage of Windows 95 innovations.
The event will be downlinked via satellite to more than 40 cities across
the United States.

"Digital's legacy of Internet expertise and PC server experience made it
the logical company to partner with for this historic event," said Joachim
Kempin, senior vice president of Microsoft Corporation's OEM division.
"This partnership builds on our long-standing alliance with Digital to
bring first Windows NT -- and now Windows 95 -- to the enterprise
computing environment."
