Farallon Introduces Netopia Family of Internet Products and Services

Includes Netscape and Microsoft Software

ALAMEDA, Calif., September 18, 1995 -- Farallon Computing, Inc., a leading
provider of innovative networking software and hardware, today introduced
the Netopia Internet Solution, a family of ISDN Internet products and
services. The Netopia family includes three components: a line of Netopia
Internet access routers, Internet software, and Internet services. The
Netopia Internet routers, to be shown at Networld+Interop next week (Booth
#6722), will connect local area networks to the Internet via a shared ISDN
line. Bundled with the routers will be the Netopia Starter Kit of Internet
software, including Netscape Navigator client software, Microsoft Plus!
Internet Jumpstart Kit (includes the Microsoft Internet Explorer, Windows
95-based web browser, and SMTP Internet mail reader), Network TeleSystems'
TCP/IP stack, Apple's MacTCP stack, and Qualcomm's Eudora Lite mail
client.

Farallon also developed a unique support program, Up & Running,
Guaranteed!, that will assist Netopia customers with all aspects of
connecting to the Internet. With list prices ranging from $1299-1699, easy
installation, and comprehensive, optional service programs, the Netopia
family includes everything corporate workgroups, small to medium size
businesses, and schools need to link their LANs to the Internet over
ISDN.

Today, businesses and schools are anxious to use the Internet. Yet for
many, obtaining Internet access can be a daunting proposition - demanding
an understanding of complex and confusing technological issues. Farallon's
new Internet solution reduces this complexity by providing business,
workgroup, and school networks with a simple and complete,
state-of-the-art Internet access product and support offering.

"Our new Internet access products extend Farallon's mission of simplifying
communications into a whole new arena. No longer will schools and
businesses need to become ISDN and WAN protocol experts to access the
Internet," said Daniel Geiger, Netopia product line manager at Farallon.
"We are providing a cost-effective way for our customers to extend their
reach to the global communications network."

Netopia Highlights

Farallon's initial Netopia Internet router offering consists of three
products. The Netopia 630 and Netopia 640 are targeted at PC/Windows
networks and the Netopia 440 is designed for PC/Macintosh networks. The
products provide high-speed Internet access for Ethernet LANs supporting
Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, NetWare, MacOS and UNIX, making it
easy to add the routers to an existing network without requiring software
or cabling changes. Netopia Internet solution highlights include:

The NETOPIA 630 AND 640 are appropriate for businesses that want to move
from their reliance on slow modems to high-speed ISDN Internet access.
They also enable smaller businesses to meet competitive challenges by
offering the speed, the access to information, and the capability to
communicate with customers, partners, and suppliers that, until now, were
used only by very large organizations. The Netopia 630 is limited to five
simultaneous users, while the Netopia 640 can support an unlimited number
of users.

Farallon's NETOPIA 440 has all the features of the Netopia 640 and adds
LocalTalk integration and AppleTalk routing for businesses and schools
with PC or Macintosh networks, equipping them with high-performance
Internet access.

Netopia Internet Solution Starter Kit

An integral part of Farallon's Internet solution is to bundle with the ISDN
routers an introduction to leading Internet software from some of the
industry's top vendors. The Netopia Internet Starter Kit will include
unlimited licenses of Microsoft software and one license for each of the
other vendors' software. Additional licenses will be available for
purchase from Farallon.

NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR is a powerful point-and-click network navigator that
enables users to access the Internet's World Wide Web (WWW). It provides a
common feature set and graphical user interface across computers running
the Microsoft Windows or Macintosh operating environments and offers
security features such as encryption, authentication, and data integrity,
enabling customers to take full advantage of the full range of commercial
on-line offerings.

MICROSOFT PLUS! INTERNET JUMPSTART KIT will be included in the Netopia
solution. It includes the Microsoft Internet Explorer Windows 95- based
WWW browser and Internet mail reader for the Windows 95 Exchange mail
client. The Microsoft Internet Explorer browser will allow Windows 95
users to search the Internet's WWW, while the SMTP Internet mail reader
will enable integration of the user's local mail system with Internet
mail.

QUALCOMM INC.'S EUDORA LITE is an open, standards-based email application
that delivers full-function interoperability across TCP/IP networks, such
as the Internet. It provides complete network or Internet service provider
account connectivity without requiring translation gateways and servers.

NETWORK TELESYSTEMS' TCP/IP protocol driver is implemented as a virtual
device driver (VxD) for Microsoft Windows. The 32-bit protected-mode VxD
supports Windows applications. The TCP/IP protocol driver includes the
Windows Sockets 1.1 API implemented as a Dynamic Link Library. Other
components of the Netopia Starter Kit include MacTCP, Ping, Telnet, an FTP
client, and electronic documentation.

Up & Running, Guaranteed! Support Program

Farallon's Internet support program, Up & Running, Guaranteed!, will be
offered as an option to all Netopia customers at a price of $499. Included
in this option is a PC Card analog modem to allow Farallon to remotely
configure and support the Netopia routers. Another unique feature of the
program is the inclusion of a two-node license of Farallon's popular
Timbuktu Pro for Networks, the first integrated networked remote control
and remote node solution. The software enables Farallon to remotely
support Netopia. In addition, customers can use Timbuktu Pro's help desk,
file transfer and exchange functions across LANs, WANs and the Internet.
The Up & Running, Guaranteed! program also includes one year of technical
support.

Through the program, organizations will be guaranteed end-to-end Internet
connection services, from ordering the ISDN line, to connecting to an
Internet service provider and configuring the Netopia router. The program
eliminates the hassles of coordinating and configuring equipment, ISDN
phone lines and Internet service Farallon handles it all. The company's
"all-in-one" product and support solution will help organizations save
time and money, and allow the network administrator to concentrate on
other responsibilities.

Netopia Channel Programs

Farallon is designing a unique channel program around the Netopia family to
include Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The Netopia Internet Service
Provider Program will enable ISPs to purchase Netopia ISDN routers
directly from Farallon and resell them to their customers. ISPs will
receive other benefits from the program, which will be announced in detail
next month. Farallon will continue to work with its Star resellers and
Smart Plug and Play Network resellers for the Netopia Internet family.
