HOLLYWOOD MEETS SILICON VALLEY AT AUTODESK UNIVERSITY

Glitz Meets Bits At Third Annual Users Conference And Exhibition Featuring
Design And Multimedia Tools From Autodesk And Technology Partners

San Francisco -- Sept. 20, 1995 -- The powerful combination of
high-technology and Hollywood's creative energy will be a highlight of the
third annual Autodesk University Conference and Exhibition, at San
Francisco's Moscone Convention Center, October 29 November 2, 1995. This
year's event, held within walking distance of San Francisco's fast-growing
multimedia gulch district, will truly be a place where "glitz meets bits,"
as computer artists and animators demonstrate applications and speak about
their experiences creating visual effects for new films, interactive
movies and multimedia titles.

Longtime users of Autodesk software will find information, classes and
on-site demonstrations of the latest new products. In the new multimedia
conference-within-a-conference, multimedia professionals will see,
first-hand, the impact that Autodesk technologies have had on film and
entertainment. And, as part of the first Planet Studio Multimedia Awards &
Electronic Festival, attendees will be able to view how digital
convergence is changing the way people express themselves in work and
play.

"Advances in technology are changing the film industry," said Carol Bartz,
Autodesk Chairman and CEO, and keynote speaker at the conference. "As
multimedia tools become more sophisticated and accessible, they will
inspire even greater levels of creativity from a broader group of users.
Autodesk University offers an important opportunity for dialogue among
artists, designers, and the suppliers of the technical solutions that
facilitate their ideas."

Following Ms. Bartz' keynote address from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.
29, several Autodesk technology partners will demonstrate applications of
Autodesk software. Brett Leonard, director of feature films, "Lawnmower
Man" and "Virtuosity" will demonstrate how 3D Studio was used to create
complex visual effects.

The first Planet Studio Multimedia Awards & Electronic Festival takes place
from 7:00 10:00 p.m. on Monday, October 30. Presented by Autodesk's
Multimedia Division, DIGITAL VIDEO magazine and DIGITAL VIDEO'S, "Planet
Studio" newsletter, the competition will feature the images and animations
of 18 finalists from around the world. "Best of the Best" work in nine
categories will be recognized, including: architectural;
artistic/creative; broadcast; character animation; film; forensic/medical;
games/game development; GIS/mapping; and mechanical design. Dale Strang,
president of Techmedia Publishing, and Jim L'Heureux, director of
marketing for Autodesk Multimedia, will co-host the event as Masters of
Ceremonies. Judges include Gary Yost, leader of the 3D Studio development
team and principal of The Yost Group.

Conference activity on Monday, Oct. 30, kicks-off with the first of three
"Super Speeches" by well-known Autodesk end-users. Richard Buday, member
of the American Institute of Architects, will explore how the practice of
architectural planning and design has been changed by computer graphics,
in a 90-minute talk beginning at 8:30 a.m. Buday is president of
Archimage, a 12-year old design studio that has received more than two
dozen awards for design and computer graphics.

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, the day begins with a "Super Speech" by Frank Foster,
vice president of Previsualization and Multimedia at Sony Picture
Imageworks, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment. A computer
film-maker since 1972 and a pioneer in new entertainment technology, Mr.
Foster will discuss how his team of artists and animators used 3D Studio
to generate visual effects for the film "Johnny Mnemonic," starring Keanu
Reaves.

Graeme Devine, president of Trilobyte, Inc., is the creator of a suite of
proprietary tools that let users develop photorealistic 3D rendering,
insert audio and video clips and control animated sequences on multiple
platforms. He will deliver a "Super Speech" on Wednesday morning, Nov. 1,
presenting Trilobyte's soon-to-be-released new title, "The 11th Hour: The
Sequel To The 7th Guest," and discuss the use of 3D computer graphics,
animation, live action video, and Trilobyte's compression technology.

Classroom and tutorial sessions at Autodesk University will range in
subject from networking CAD systems to video capture and animation
techniques. More than 180 sessions for AutoCAD users and CAD managers
focus on increasing productivity, customization and programming, and
systems and data management. Classes are further divided by professional
focus including: Architecture, Education and Training, Facilities
Management, Mapping/GIS, and Mechanical Design/Manufacturing. The special
multimedia conference-within-a-conference, open to all attendees, offers
75 classes, 42 hands on labs and a multimedia pavilion on the exhibit
floor.
