HP SETS AGGRESSIVE PRICING ACROSS FULL RANGE OF NOTEBOOK PCS; TARGETS
DESKTOP REPLACEMENTS

HP Machines Cost up to 22 Percent Less than the Competition

Palo Alto, California. August 28, 1995 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced that it has slashed prices up to 19 percent on its HP OmniBook
4000 and 600 notebook PCs.

HP's notebook PC line also includes the competitively priced
Pentium(tm)-based HP OmniBook 5000 notebook PCs, which were introduced in
May.

"As more MIS directors consider replacing significant numbers of desktop
PCs with notebooks, aggressive pricing becomes critical," said Christopher
(Chris) Morgan, worldwide marketing manager of HP's Mobile Computing
Division. "From the ultraportable HP OmniBook 600 to our new Pentium-based
HP OmniBook 5000 PCs, HP now offers a notebook PC for any user, at a price
that will match or better any in the industry."

The HP OmniBook 5000 notebook PCs combine the 90-MHz Pentium-processor with
level-2 cache and full PCI bus architecture for accelerated-graphics and
I/O performance that rivals that of Pentium desktop PCs. Estimated street
prices begin at $5,690(1) for an HP OmniBook 5000CT 5/90, with a VGA
active-matrix display, a 1.2GB hard-disk drive and 8MB RAM. Customers who
want the highest resolution available in a notebook PC can purchase the HP
OmniBook 5000CTS 5/90, which has an SVGA active-matrix display, 16MB RAM,
a 1.2GB hard disk and an estimated street price of $6,360.

The HP OmniBook 600 PCs, which offer exceptional portability in the
industry's lightest notebook design (3.8 pounds), now start at an
estimated street price of $2,080 for a DX2/50MHz system with 4MB RAM and a
170MB hard-disk drive.

486-based HP OmniBook 4000 notebook PCs, which provide value-oriented
customers with a wide choice of processor speeds, color displays, hard
drives and RAM configurations, begin at an estimated street price of
$2,190. For example, an OmniBook 4000 CT notebook PC with DX4/100
processor and 520MB hard drive, now at an estimated street price of
$3,510, is 22 percent less than a comparably configured IBM 755CE at its
current estimated street price of $4,499.
