HUMMINGBIRD ANNOUNCES ENHANCED WINDOWS NT PC X SERVER

Exceed 5 For Windows NT Features High Performance And Support For Intel,
MIPS, Alpha and PowerPC Platforms

North York, Ontario, September 19, 1995 -- Hummingbird Communications Ltd.
(TSE: "HUM"; Nasdaq: "HUMCF") the technology and market leader in the
worldwide PC to UNIX integration software industry, today announces Exceed
5 for Windows NT, a new version of the industry's leading PC X server
software for Windows NT. Exceed 5 for Windows NT is a high performance
X11R6 native Windows NT PC X server that enables Windows NT workstations
to access and display applications from UNIX/X, VMS, Ultrix and OSF/1
based computer systems.

The Exceed 5 for Windows NT 32-bit PC X server harnesses Windows NT's high
performance multithreaded architecture, features the industry's most
comprehensive PC-X application suite and administrative tools, and is
seamlessly integrated within the NT environment. As the industry's first
native Windows NT PC X server, introduced more than two years ago, Exceed
5 for Windows NT offers a higher level of maturity, stability, robustness,
and performance than competing products.

Exceed 5 for Windows NT now supports the X11R6 XIE image extension for high
performance image handling and includes support for the Common Desktop
Environment (CDE), via TriTeal's Enterprise Desktop (TED), providing
access to CDE enabled hosts in both single and multiple window modes.
Exceed 5 for Windows NT provides enhanced Setup configuration (Sconfig)
and Remote configuration (Rconfig) administrative facilities. A new TN3270
emulator, EMail and USENET News reader have been added. In addition to
support for Intel based computers, Exceed 5 has been ported to the MIPS,
Alpha and PowerPC platforms, allowing NT users to harness the high
performance of RISC microprocessors.

Exceed 5 for Windows NT's dial-up capability has been optimized to provide
higher performance for remote access to UNIX/X applications over standard
telephone lines. Exceed/Xpress, the integrated serial access technology,
now provides the ability to disable specific compression algorithms,
enabling the use of modem hardware compression, resulting in significantly
higher performance. Exceed/Xpress also supports IP, enabling Xpress to run
over TCP/IP, SLIP, and PPP.

Exceed 5 for Windows NT can be centrally installed and administered from
single or multiple network servers, and includes Setup configuration
(Sconfig) and Remote configuration (Rconfig) facilities. Sconfig allows
for customization of the installation process by selecting desired
software components (custom keyboard files, fonts, program icons, etc.),
minimizing user involvement in the installation process. Rconfig enables
batch automation of the installation and configuration of large
populations of Exceed 5 for Windows NT desktops.

  for the XIE image extension
