IBM Announces AttachPak for OS/2 Warp Connect

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 20, 1995...IBM announced today that its AttachPak for
OS/2 Warp Connect will be available by the end of September. This add-on
to OS/2 Warp Connect provides a broad set of advanced connectivity
capabilities, including a Lotus Notes Desktop trade-up from Lotus Notes
Express, that creates an enhanced enterprise solution for medium and large
corporate customers.

Advanced Connectivity Features

Warp Connect offers a full set of integrated networking capabilities and
software that provide peer and remote connections along with TCP/IP for
dial-up and LAN access to the Internet, access to the most popular online
services, and Lotus Notes Express. AttachPak builds on the foundation of
OS/2 Warp Connect to provide advanced connectivity and groupware
capabilities that many businesses require. In addition to providing access
to Notes applications, the AttachPak allows users to process host
information through 3270 terminal emulation, monitor performance at the PC
and run Systems Network Architecture (SNA) applications.

AttachPak offers:

o Lotus Notes Desktop -- designed for organizations that want
     a cost-effective way to deploy corporate-wide applications.
Notes Desktop is a Notes run-time client that allows users
to utilize Notes applications and includes 25 application
templates such as customer tracking, document library and
workflow. Additionally, Notes Desktop enables organizations
to leverage Notes' unique groupware capabilities, including
compound document management, mobile support, replication
     and robust security.

 o IBM Personal Communications/3270 for OS/2 Entry Level --
allows communication abilities between desktop users and
mainframes. This emulation capability increases productivity
for the user by allowing access to information stored on a
     host computer within the organization.

 o Communications Manager/2 SNA Application Environment --
protects customers' investments by allowing computers
to exchange data with systems using the Advanced
Program-to-Program Communication (APPC) protocol. The SNA
Application Environment allows users to access information
     from a mainframe or workstation.

o Mobile File Sync -- allows LAN clients to disconnect from
the network and still work with cached files from the
server. When the client is reconnected, mobile and server
files are synchronized. This ensures that users will be
working with the most current version of their data.

o Performance monitoring -- allows a network administrator to
determine if a computer is running at peak efficiency.
System Performance Monitor/2 helps identify and solve
performance issues of OS/2 systems via data collection,
recording, graphing, reporting and analyzing facilities for
     a single workstation.

Additional features include a Distributed Computing Environment (DCE)
Client, a Dial-in-Access-to-LANs (DIALs) client that allows remote LAN
access using an IBM 8235 Server and AnyNet Sockets for OS/2 to support
protocol independence for Socket applications. AnyNet Sockets for OS/2
allows these applications to run over NetBIOS, IPX or SNA networks.
AttachPak also provides NetView Distribution Manager/2 (NVDM/2) Start Up,
which downloads the NVDM/2 client that is licensed separately. This NVDM/2
client permits software distribution over a network.

This addition to the OS/2 Warp family of products further strengthens the
ability of users to grow within the OS/2 Warp product line. Clients can
use the single platform to expand from the premier 32-bit desktop
operating system to OS/2 Warp Connect, LAN Server and to the upcoming OS/2
Warp Server. IBM AttachPak for OS/2 Warp Connect will be available through
retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $209. Users may also dial
1-800-3IBM-OS2 to order a copy.
