MR Mac Software Releases Economical AppleTalk & TCP/IP monitoring Program -
Network Scout

San Diego, CA September 1, 1995 - MR Mac Software has just released it's
newest product, an economical network monitoring tool called Network
Scout. This essential network administration program will monitor devices
on a TCP/IP network and an AppleTalk network, and notify administrators of
their changing status through a comprehensive set of alert options.

Network Scout can keep administrators appraised of the status of AppleTalk
or TCP/IP devices such as printers, file servers, routers, Unix machines
or even individual Macintosh computers. Each network device selected for
monitoring is periodically checked at a user defined frequency to verify
that status of the device. If the status changes, then one or more alerts
can be triggered.

"Before Network Scout, you had to have a Unix machine or buy software
costing $1,000 or more to be able to monitor AppleTalk and IP devices.
Network Scout offers a cost effective alternative. Any administrator
serious about monitoring their network can buy Network Scout and install
it on an old SE they undoubtedly have lying around. This way, users have
an affordable monitoring system to keep tabs on their network." says MR
Mac president Michael Robertson.

System administrators can choose from a wide range of notification methods
to keep tabs on network devices including:

 o E-mail message
 o Alphanumeric pages
 o Sounds
 o Speech
 o Dialog boxes

Network Scout supports email via internet standard SMTP. Users on the go
who require immediate notification may take advantage of the alphanumeric
pager features. Bundled with Network Scout is full featured standalone
alphanumeric paging software from MarkSpace called PageNow=81. Links to
PageNow are built directly into Network Scout so interaction is nearly
seamless and requires no scripting. A particular sound can ring as an
alert letting the user know a device is down, or a user may choose to use
Apple's text to speech capabilities to have an alert spoken aloud. Dialog
box alerts stating which device has gone down are an additional option.
Besides active alerts, Network Scout documents device status in a text
file so a history of device stability can be assessed.

Network Scout is available immediately for $289 plus $6.00 shipping and
handling, and comes bundled with PageNow alphanumeric paging software. It
can be purchased from MR Mac Software, sales@mrmac.com. A 10% discount is
extended to educational institutions. Purchase orders are accepted.
