NETCOM AND MICROSOFT CONFIRM NETCRUISER IS COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 95

Award Winning Versions are Compatible with Microsoft's New Operating
System

SAN JOSE, CA -- Sept. 12, 1995 -- NETCOM On-Line Communication Services,
Inc. (NASDAQ:NETC), a leading provider of direct, nationwide Internet
access, in conjunction with Microsoft, today assured customers that
NETCOM's NetCruiser product is fully compatible with the Microsoft Windows
95 operating system.

Erroneous information referencing NetCruiser incompatibility with Windows
95 was briefly posted on Microsoft s Internet site (
http://www.windows.microsoft.com), resulting in incorrect press coverage.
Microsoft has removed the NETCOM reference in the Internet posting and has
now posted a correction message on the site.

NETCOM has been shipping its award-winning software, NetCruiser 1.6, since
April 1995 and has recently made NetCruiser 2.0 available. Both NETCOM and
Microsoft have worked closely together for several months to ensure that
the product is fully compatible with Windows 95.

NetCruiser combines popular Internet features such as a World Wide Web
browser, e-mail, Usenet news groups, TELNET, IRC, FTP, Gopher, and
registration services that make getting on-line fast and easy. NetCruiser
is Winsock compliant, giving users the choice to seamlessly integrate
third-party software.

"We're very pleased that NETCOM has selected Windows 95 as the supporting
platform for NetCruiser and regret any misperceptions the industry might
have reached based upon the miscommunication on our home page," said Mike
Conte, Windows 95 product manager at Microsoft. "Microsoft is committed to
making Windows 95 the ideal platform for third party applications."

NETCOM customers have reported no problems with either NetCruiser 1.6 or
NetCruiser 2.0 running under the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system.

"Microsoft has acknowledged the miscommunication of our product on their
home page," said John Zeisler, senior vice president of marketing for
NETCOM. "We are pleased that Microsoft is now taking the steps to correct
the error, thereby assuring the user community of NetCruiser's status as
an award-winning, integrated Internet software solution."

NETCOM On-Line Communication Services, Inc. provides high-quality, low-cost
nationwide Internet access over its own high-speed digital network. A
public company since December 1994, NETCOM has experienced substantial
growth in both its subscriber base, with over 200,000 subscribers, and the
number of access points, by aggressively building a nationwide network.
Since NETCOM operates its own network employing TCP/IP, the backbone
technology of the Internet, subscribers benefit from a stable, reliable
network at low prices, in addition to a Windows- based, user-friendly
interface. Internet users can learn more about the company on-line at:
