NEXGEN ANNOUNCES PCI PRODUCTION AVAILABILITY; EXPECTED TO SIGNIFICANTLY
EXPAND PC/OEM BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Alaris and HCL Hewlett-Packard First to Ship PCI Motherboards; Two
Additional Manufacturers in Development of Nx586/PCI Motherboards

MILPITAS, California, September 12, 1995--NexGen, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXGN) today
announced production availability of PCI (Peripheral Component
Interconnect) Bus chipsets and motherboards that support its Nx586
processor family of fifth-generation x86 processors. The Nx586 processor
is the only fifth generation alternative to the Pentium processor
currently in production.

Supporting this availability are a number of motherboard companies that are
shipping Nx586 PCI motherboards. Two motherboard companies have immediate
availability of motherboards: Alaris Corporation, headquartered in the
United States, and HCL Hewlett-Packard Ltd., headquartered in India. Two
additional manufacturers, DataExpert and A-Trend, both headquartered in
Taiwan which is the No. # 1 motherboard exporter in the world, are
scheduled to ship over the next quarter.

"We are rapidly transitioning to the PCI-based Nx586 platform as we ramp up
production,-- states Vin Dham, NexGen's Chief Operating Officer. "We now
offer our customers around the globe a state of-the-art PCI solution."

The Nx586 processor/PCI motherboard solution is an excellent match to the
new Windows '95 operating system. The Nx586 processor, optimized for
32-bit processing, is ideal for 32-bit operating systems, the plug-n-play
capabilities of PCI align wit-h similar goals for Windows '95. For
example, Symantec's Windows '95 benchmark, found in Norton Utilities for
Windows '95, shows Nx586 processor performance to be 25% greater than
equivalent Pentiums running 32-bit applications.

In March, NexGen entered into an agreement with leading chipset supplier
VLSI Technology, Inc. of San Jose, California, whereby VLSI was to
manufacture PCI chipsets for NexGen's Nx586 processor family. As a result
of this agreement, the NxPCI and NxMC system logic chips are currently
manufactured by VLSI Technology.

NexGen, Inc. (NASDAQ: NXGN) develops and utilizes industry-leading
processor technologies to deliver high performance x86 processors to
mainstream PC users. The Milpitas, California-based company currently
holds many patents for its leading-edge x86 processor technology and has
several more patents in process. For product information, call
