PEOPLESOFT DELIVERS WORKFLOW IN PEOPLESOFT 5

ADDS AGENT-BASED WORKFLOW ARCHITECTURE AND FOUR NEW PARTNERS

PLEASANTON, CA, September 11, 1995 -- PeopleSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSFT) today
announced delivery of a comprehensive, agent-based workflow architecture
with tools, runtime agents, and templates that workflow- enable PeopleSoft
5, the latest release of its entire family of client/server business
software. Complementing this new open workflow architecture, PeopleSoft
also announced that Action Technologies, Delrina Corp., IBM, and Lotus
Development Corp. are integrating their workflow offerings with PeopleSoft
applications and have joined as PeopleSoft Open Workflow Partners.

Specifically, PeopleSoft Workflow has four major components:

Workflow Designer Toolset, a development environment for building
   workflow processes.

Workflow Processor, a runtime environment for accessing, monitoring
and executing, analyzing, and controlling workflow processes.

Application Workflow Templates, pre-defined workflow processes
   that automate common business tasks.

Message Agent API, an open interface providing integration with
third-party and Open Workflow Partner solutions.

"The combination of a robust internal workflow engine and hooks to
best-of-breed workflow offerings is designed to give customers
flexibility, extensibility, and openness," said Rick Bergquist, PeopleSoft
Vice President of Technology. "PeopleSoft Workflow was designed to
accommodate different organizational structures and processes and is
completely customizable. Customers can further automate and modify key
business processes, meet open systems requirements, and leverage existing
investments using virtually any workflow mechanism they wish."

"As organizations seek enterprise-wide computing environments, workflow is
a key component," said Barbara Noti, Senior Analyst, META Group. "As a
technology that enables users to streamline business operations and
improve productivity, a good workflow solution would offer customers a
head-start with tools and useful templates, as well as third-party
workflow partners and proven workflow options to choose from."

ABOUT PEOPLESOFT WORKFLOW

Customers can use PeopleSoft Workflow to streamline business operations,
facilitate reengineering efforts, improve user productivity, and reduce
paperwork. PeopleSoft Workflow is built on an open agent- based
architecture that utilizes agents to deliver flexibility through a variety
of different workflow processes, extensibility through workflow creation
and modification with tools and templates, and finally, openness through
multiple implementation options. The PeopleSoft Workflow architecture has
four components as follows:

WORKFLOW DESIGNER TOOLSET -- The Workflow Designer Toolset is a development
environment which allows users to create and maintain workflows and
processes by creating or changing rules, roles, and routings, as well as
processes and events. For example, a systems analyst can design a workflow
process such as a Purchase Requisition Approval by first defining the
roles in the business process (e.g., Employee, Manager) and the approval
roles ("All purchase requests for items not on the Expedited Purchase list
that are more than $150 must be approved by Manager"). Then business
events are added (such as Requisition Approved and Ready for Sourcing),
and finally, the routings are defined (creating an electronic message to
the requester on approval and generating a Purchase Order EDI
transaction).

WORKFLOW PROCESSOR -- The Workflow Processor is a runtime environment which
supports the execution of workflow processes. It includes:

MESSAGE AGENTS -- Message Agents manage message-based workflow processes
initiated by third-party applications, for example, accepting purchase
requests from a groupware or electronic forms application.

DATABASE AGENTS -- Database Agents initiate workflow activity based on
information in the database, for example, recurring activities such as
notifying managers via electronic mail or voice mail of upcoming employee
reviews, or exceptions such as the completion of an employee's review when
overdue.

APPLICATION AGENTS -- Application Agents initiate and carry out workflow
processes based on business rules defined by the organization, for
example, training course requests and enrollment or purchase
requisitions.

WORKLISTS -- Worklists are the primary user interface to a workflow
application, presenting to the user workflow tasks that need to be
conducted by that specific user or group of users. Selecting a task from a
worklist automatically takes the user to the appropriate panels (e.g., an
approval form) to complete the selected tasks.

WORKFLOW ADMINISTRATOR -- The Workflow Administrator is used to monitor,
analyze, and control ongoing workflow activity, and to generate a variety
of operational and other reports to evaluate workflow efficiency and
productivity.

For example, employees can compose electronic purchase requests, which can
be sent via electronic mail to a Message Agent running as part of a
PeopleSoft Purchasing application. The Message Agent would immediately add
the request to the purchasing system. The Application Agent applies the
organization's approval rules and either automatically approves or routes
the request to the appropriate manager for approval. Once approved, the
Application Agent automatically routes the purchase request to a buyer for
sourcing, or submits the purchase order directly to suppliers. The
Database Agent monitors the expected arrival of supplies and triggers a
follow-up workflow for overdue items. The Workflow Administrator monitors
the entire process, ensuring that all activities occur within acceptable
timeframes as well as reports on overall performance.

APPLICATION WORKFLOW TEMPLATES -- PeopleSoft's Application Workflow
Templates are pre-defined, ready-to-use workflow applications that
automate common business tasks such as purchase orders and requisitions,
new hire administration, and benefits enrollment. Unlike other workflow
offerings, these templates can be used as is or can be easily modified
using the Workflow Designer Toolset to accommodate an organization's
unique needs. Users can also build their own templates with the Workflow
Designer Toolset. Application Workflow Templates for most common business
functions will be included in PeopleSoft applications.

MESSAGE AGENT API -- Available now, the Message Agent API is an application
programming interface that integrates third-party workflow-related
solutions, including World Wide Web access via the Internet, with any
PeopleSoft application. This API delivers to customers the ability to
choose the workflow or groupware solution best suited to their needs. The
Message Agent API is used by leading groupware vendors that have joined
the PeopleSoft Open Workflow Partners Program.

OPEN WORKFLOW PARTNERS PROGRAM

The Open Workflow Partners Program facilitates the integration of popular
third-party workflow-related technologies such as electronic forms
products, interactive voice response (IVR) systems, information kiosks,
and other media solutions with PeopleSoft applications. Using the Message
Agent API, jointly integrated solutions from PeopleSoft and the Open
Workflow Partners will be delivered by the Partners.

Today, PeopleSoft announced technology and marketing agreements with Action
Technologies, Delrina Corp., IBM, and Lotus Development Corp. to enable
customers to use ActionWorkflow(TM), Delrina's FormFlow electronic forms
solution, IBM's multi-media kiosks, and Lotus Notes to interact seamlessly
with PeopleSoft application and integrate business processes that cross
organizational as well as functional boundaries. Previously announced
members of the program include: Computer Communications Specialists, Inc.,
Edify Corporation, ESSENSE Systems, JetForm Corporation, and TALX.

"We are pleased to have industry leaders such as Action, Delrina, IBM, and
Lotus join our program," said Frank Strelau, PeopleSoft Director of
Channel Development. "Their innovative technologies enable us to provide
customers with the best possible combination of tools and services to
implement workflow-enabled solutions that fit their specific needs."

ACTION TECHNOLOGIES

Action Technologies provides a robust workflow system that will enable
PeopleSoft customers to implement full-scale workflow solutions within
PeopleSoft applications and across disparate applications, departments,
and processes. Action will provide a software toolkit and support services
for PeopleSoft's Implementation Partners, allowing for hooks between
PeopleSoft applications and the ActionWorkflow(TM) system through Action's
sophisticated application developer interface.

DELRINA CORP.

Delrina FormFlow, the most widely used electronic forms product, enables
customers to rapidly develop and implement electronic forms solutions to
automate business processes such as expense reporting, timesheets,
performance appraisal systems, and other traditional paper-based
processes. Delrina FormFlow will interface with PeopleSoft applications to
enable users to access and route information in a structured manner.

IBM

IBM has developed an interactive kiosk application to work with
PeopleSoft's HRMS applications. PeopleTeller By ISSC is an interactive
multimedia kiosk that provides PeopleSoft users with a flexible,
multimedia front-end to PeopleSoft HRMS so users can interactively change
their personnel data on a touch screen kiosk. This application will
empower employees to make their own personnel changes therefore
streamlining personnel operations. PeopleTeller By ISSC will be marketed
by IBM's wholly-owned subsidiary, ISSC.

LOTUS DEVELOPMENT CORP.

Lotus Notes will be integrated with PeopleSoft applications. PeopleSoft
customers will then be able to use the Notes environment already deployed
within their organizations to interact with PeopleSoft applications. For
example, users will be able to enroll in benefits programs, change tax
withholdings, update personal information, enroll in training courses, and
make purchase requests through Notes to the appropriate PeopleSoft
application. Lotus Notes is the industry standard platform for developing
and deploying groupware applications.
